I read various reviews from other travellers before booking this hotel. Having just spent 2 weeks at Cordial Mogan Playa, have returned home and already my husband and I have booked again for next year. This is my personal review, some good, some bad points (when I say bad, just minor issues). Bar upstairs which is much nicer than the 'disco bar' downstairs closes at 11pm - too early if you are on a second sitting for dinner and want a night cap. Went a couple of times for a drink but was ignored by waiting staff and got fed up waiting so left. Not enough bar staff to attend to everyone. Disco/entertainment area downstairs need revamping, bar service very slow, this bar apparently closes at 1 am. Went a couple of times and got fed up waiting to be served so left. Another time although not busy waited 15 mins for drinks to arrive. Entertainment was not good what we saw and not enough seats for everyone. Bars around the harbour close at 11 pm, and we couldn't find a bar that stayed open to a least midnight - somebody said in a review that there were a couple but we couldn't fine any. Not heavy drinkers but would be nice to have a night cap and chill. Met some other couples who said exactly the same thing. Hotel had a pool bar who opened in the evening which was nice. Lovely young man who served a great cocktail. This should have stayed opened until 11 pm but he apologised because he had to close to help out in the other bars so closed at 10.20 pm when we were there. Not his fault but if you state opening times until 11 pm then it would be nice to adhere to that time. Drain smell in the bathroom - read this on a few reviews and yes, if you have a bath and pull the plug an awful stench comes out from plug hole. Unfortunately I think this is what happens in hot countries. Air con worked well and wasn't too noisy, there were three settings for the fan. Air con and lights only came on when you insert your room card in the slot just inside the entrance door. Had an average room not a suite overlooking the pool which was lovely and spacious. Didn't think the furniture looked dated as said in some reviews. Beds comfortable and had an adequate terrace. Kettle and mugs in room but no tea, coffee milk so pretty useless really. Small fridge in room which was very welcomed, could do with a bigger ice box as could only fit one small ice tray. Think they could do with replacing it as we didn't find that it kept drinks very cold. If you order ice or collect from bar area they charge you. If not included in your package then drinks at dinner are costly. 500ml bottle of water 2.10 euros, beer from approx 3.5 euros, wine from approx. 19 euros a bottle which was expensive. Spar just a few minutes walk and wine, spirits etc very cheap but you cannot bring drinks into the restaurant. If you buy a bottle of wine in the restuarant and do not drink it they will label it up for you for the following night. You are allocated a table number and that is your table for the duration of your stay unless you request to be move. Better inside than out as you have air con inside. Second sitting you can go anytime from when it starts which during the first week of our stay was 8.45 pm, then second week they changed the sitting times to be brought forward by 15 mins. Get there as soon as you can as they start packing food away as soon as most of the people have left. Arrive anytime during the breakfast hours and sit anywhere. I think Puerto Mogan businesses have to realise that the British pound is weak at the moment and need to adjust their prices accordingly, some items were no cheaper than the UK. Upon arrival met by delightful receptionist who offered a welcome drink (carva, water, orange juice), lovely touch. Everything was explained clearly. Porters to show you to room and help with luggage but we just found the room ourself. Safe in room to rent for the 2 weeks was 32 euros which we though was excessive, a safe should be provided in a hotel of this star rating free or minimal charge to cover insurance. Our safe went wrong but security quick to respond and sort out. Cleaning of room was not good on certain days. Rooms not sweep everyday or mopped. Found a dirty cloth underneath the bed. Bathroom could do with a better clean, I think they just get a damp cloth and wipe round. No toilet roll one day which shouldn't happen. Leave your towels on the bathroom floor if you want fresh ones. Hotel restaurant is very well run but they do take your plate as soon as you've finished, so felt rushed. Food excellent, well impressed and plenty of choice, something for everyone and children were catered for as well. Congratulations to the chefs but please, synthetic cream on most of the desserts..too much. Yes there were queues especially for the meat carvery, need another person to carve. Plenty of restaurants along the harbour if you fancy a change or just a drink but close at 11 pm. The hotel public areas are very clean and well kept. Gardens beautiful and flowers fabulous, do have a look at the cactus plant area. Take some walking shoes/trainers if you want to walk up the archaeological site attached to the hotel. Take your room key if you do the whole walk as otherwise you'll have to pay 4 euros at the end, don't forget to take water with you, (no good if you don't like heights or have any disability). Tennis court, Spa, Football pitch, children's pool/play area available. Pool just the right temperature. It does states not to reserve sun lounges with towels but a lot of people ignored this. Could do with more sun lounges as we had to look around for empty ones a few times. Found them in the end but shouldn't have to do that. Sun loungers good quality with nice thick cushions. Reception give you pool towels on arrival and you just change them in the morning between 9 - 12 at the pool area for fresh ones - good touch. The pool area can get very hot during the day because the hotel is tucked in between two steep mountains and doesn't get hardly any wind. These mountains also delay the sunrise and bring on an early sunset but in Sept we still had 9-10 hours of sun. A pool bar but no one comes round to see if you want any drinks, I think the hotel would make more money if they do that. Gym available but air con not very good and tred mills, nordic, cycle and weights generally available such was the poor demand when we were there. Hotel has onsite cycle and diving tours. Visited Puerto Rico by boat which was 11 euros return each (thought this was expensive, cheaper by bus). Buses available just a few minutes walk from the front of the hotel. Only stayed in puerto rico 40 mins we found it tacky by comparison with the beautiful Mogan. Lots of water sports to do around harbour. Small beach area which looked very nice. Can hire sun loungers with umbrella inclusive for approx 9 euros for two persons for the day. Toilets on beach. People smoke everywhere, very few no smoking areas in restaurants. No smoking in hotel restaurant inside but you could smoke outside. Transfer by Thomas Cook from airport to hotel was 40 mins with two stops but going back to the airport was 1 hour 30 mins on an awful coach with ripped seats. One young couple said their transfer (not Thomas Cook) was four hours! Was told that a taxi would be approx. 30 euros. Most guests at the hotels were Italian, Spanish, some Germans, British, Dutch and Swiss. Hotel staff very friendly. Quiet at night so slept well. Hotel lights seem to switch off except emergency lights on terrace. Rooms seemed to be well sound proof. Cats around hotel but well looked after and hidden food, water, litter trays, sheltered cat houses. No smell of cat poo. Forgot to mention an a la carte restaurant. This sounds a rather negative review but we did have a lovely relaxing time at Cordial Mogan Playa in a beautiful part of Canaria and are going back again next year.

Rooms - our room was fine, we stayed in the room overlooking the pool, it was quite a big room, with a small tv.
Generally speaking the room & bathroom were clean, although the sinkhole and the other whole could be cleaned properly... Black stuff was coming out... and my little one put their hand a few time in there...
The rest in the room was clean.

In the room we had a kettle, but no tea, coffee, etc. Neither mineral water - only on the day of arrival. I believe that a hotel at this standard can afford a small water bottle per customer, bearing in mind the price per night and number of stars.

Food & restaurants - the food is fine, not delicious, but good, which is a plus as I do not want to get 10 pound on hols :) The selection is wide. Breakfast can sometimes be a bit boring if you stay for more than 10 days.

Although plates and cups are not cleaned properly, everyday I needed to change either my plate/cup/glass or cutlery before eating - which was a bit disappointing. Maybe a small thing, but it mattered to me.

Pools - both very good, clean, quite big. As we stayed in September, it wasn't too crowded, we always could find sunbeds for us.

Garden - beautiful, so many plants, fruit, flowers, trees, but my husband had a terrible allergy...

Drinks at the bar - very tasty, prepared very well, especially Mojito :) but a bit overpriced.

Staff - and this is what makes a difference. The most friendly, happy to help, attentive, smiling people I have ever met. From the reception, waiters/waitresses, animation team, gardeners, cleaning lady to the kids club team etc. Wonderful! Hats off, as they made our stay very nice indeed.

We stayed here for 2 weeks early September. The hotel and grounds were superb. Nearly everybody you spoke to has been back at least twice, some three times each year. I would describe this hotel experience as gentle and soothing. The spa was spectacular. The walk through the grounds past the chapel set amongst the most beautiful plants was awesome. I am petrified of cats and even I admired this hotels feeding station and the cats looked so healthy (couple I saw). Food was heavenly, there was so much choice buffet style. Sitting at breakfast around 8 was peaceful, never did it feel like a large hotel. Once you have walked around the grounds it is not as big as you fear. Staff are fantastic. My husband is not a holiday lover but even he cannot wait to return. Beach and marina are a few minutes walk away which was nice. Entertainment fantastic. Yes there is a shutdown around 11.30 but that is what makes this hotel and area so enchanting. If it is loud music or partying into the early hours then no this is not the place but this hotel and area does appeal to so many. Fabulous holiday.
