“Excellent for a Spa weekend with the Girls”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2012

We stayed here in St. Patricks weekend - so the hotel was very busy with families and children. Three of us shared a large, modern, clean and contemporary room with a large bathroom and rainforest shower. We booked it for a Spa weekend - and we were'nt disappointed. No children are allowed in the Thermal Suite/Pool - so adults only! Fabulous relaxation areas and various heat tooms. Great Thermal pool. We spend hours there over the weekend. Booked a full body massage and it did not disappoint - all top class.
We ate in the bar one evening (decent food) and went into Cork another night. The breakfast was excellent (buffet and menu) - apart from a very surly waiter who ignored a spilled glass of OJ on the table! We are so relaxed from the Spa trips.. we did'nt pass much heed. We went on various walks around the island as an attempt at 'exercise'.. the resort is lovely. Highly recommended for a ladies spa weekend in a comfortable, clean hotel with super spa facilities. Would return,

We stayed at the Fota Island Resort on Sunday 18th March. Our children had bought us a voucher for Bed & Breakfast with a bottle of wine on arrival and VIP passes to the spa. For my birthday I received some spa treatments and afternoon tea. I booked the afternoon tea for 3.30pm on Sunday and my treatments for 5.50pm. We checked in at 3.00pm and went to our room which nice a spacious with a very large comfortable bed. The bathroom was very spacious with separate bath and shower. I have visited the spa before so knew what to expect. The hydro therapy pool and relaxation rooms are great and I was delighted with my treatments. The staff, as before, were very friendly and helpful.

We asked if we could use our bottle of wine for dinner and that was no problem. We booked dinner in the restaurant and were not disappointed. My husband did feel he would have like more of a choice but I thought the choices were good and we both agreed the food was wonderful. My husband ordered a steak very well done and when it came out he expected that it would not be cooked to his likeing as it was a very thick steak, however it was perfectly coooked. We paid €77 for two starters, two main courses and one dessert, which we thought was good value as the food was exceptional and the whole dining experience left nothing to be desired.

My only critisim is that one of the chairs in our room had a stain on it which took away a little from the cleanliness of the hotel. I have noticed this is a problem with a lot of hotels but do feel something could be done about these stains expecially in a four star hotel.

The chairs and bed in our room were extremely comfortable. All in all I really enjoyed my stay at Fota Island and would have not hesitation in going back.

Despite the poor weather, we just returned from a wonderful 7-night stay in the Courtyard Lodges at Fota. The Lodges provided us with great space for two small children while taking advantage of the spa, clubhouse, and restaurants! Service across the board was amazing, especially the care given our two young girls (ages 2 & 4 1/2) in the restaurants. We will certainly return again on our next trip to Ireland!

Fota Island Hotel has a very impressive drive up to the actual hotel. The hotel is very modern from outside but is lovely old style and dark wood on the inside. The staff here are really friendly and check in was fast. Our room was lovely and bright and extremely clean. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds that we have slept in. I made use of the spa and had a facial and massage and I used the hydro-therapy pool. I can only say that this was a truly wonderful experience. The pool is just so relaxing and theraputic for tired muscles. My massage was a full body hot stone and it was so good I would fully recommend it to anyone using the spa (not cheap but worth the money) Later in the day we dined at 'The Spike' restaurant which is within the golf clubhouse. The food was only average - my partner had steak and there was one small potato and a small amount of cooked red onion - disappointing that this was served with frozen chips (would have expected hand cut chips and/or veg). The burger was lovely and came with hand cut chips. Desserts were very nice. The staff serving us our food were very confused with orders and the service was only average. We later went to the bar of the hotel for the night and the service was second to none and we can only say that the bar staff were so obliging and very alert to the customers. Overall I would say this is a nice hotel to stay in but it wasn't the standard of a 5* hotel although the spa itself is certainly 5*

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor and it was lovely and bright.

My girlfriend and I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. On arrival the first thing that strikes you is the lobby area - it is quite beautiful. Check-in was swift and the girl at reception was very polite and helpful.
Our room was very spacious and clean but it is the bathroom that adds the finesse to the room - very big bathroom with a bath and seperate walk-in shower and the lighting is also very elegant. The only problem in our room was the safe wouldn't lock but one call to the front desk and they had a man up to our room within 5 minutes to fix it. One more thing - a biscuit would have been nice with the tea/coffee facility in the room!
We had dinner one night in the restaurant which was delicious and the restaurant itself is very nice. We also had breakfast both mornings which was lovely and everything you could want is on offer.
The bar - The Amber Lounge - is a fantastic bar, one of the best hotel bars I've ever been in. The atmosphere day and night is so chilled out, the bar staff are very attentive and friendly and the pints of Murphy's go down a treat!
Our one major gripe about our stay was that we only had access to the swimming pool. In order to use the sauna, steam room, hydro pool etc, it was an extra €25 per person per day - which is very excessive. We were not aware of this extra charge until we were in the swimming pool and asked a member of staff where the suana was and we were then told it was an extra €50 per couple to use it. Several other people in the swimming pool at the time were also not aware of this. These facilities should be complimentary for all hotel guests and the fact that you have to pay extra for them should be stated more clearly on the hotel's website.
All in all, this hotel is beautiful and is what you would expect from a 5 star hotel but the €25 extra charge for guests to use some basic leisure facilities is a policy the hotel should look to change.

On arrival we were greeted at the door by a friendly smile and then brought to reception desk where Hazel checked us in. Having booked this as a birthday treat I didn't want my partner to know the cost and said as much to Hazel who was nothing but discreet and lovely. She also even upgraded us to a room with a balcony.

The rooms are spacious and spotless and our bathroom was nearly as big as the room itself. Tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, robes, slippers and many more items added to the comfort we experienced on our stay. The convenience of having separate lifts running from each floor to the Spa and swimming pool was great and meant that you could slip freely up and down in your robe without having to bring anything with you. The pool area and the separate hydrotherapy suite are great places to unwind and even if you are not availing of a treatment both are well worth a visit.

On our first night we ate at the Fota Restaurant and had a delicious meal of Ballycotton mussels (more than enough for two), fillet of cod, fillet of lemon sole and crab and the mouth watering artists pallet for dessert. Service was attentive and prompt.

On Saturday night we had a few drinks in the bar which was short staffed and seemed to have only one person who was able to make cocktails. Three different sets of people at the table next to us had sat down before the table was cleared. Breakfast on Sunday between 10-11 involved a queue which didn't really shrink below 10 people at any given time. The staff were most apologetic and very obviously run off their feet. It is a terrible pity as this reflects poorly on a hotel that does not fall down in any other respect except for an obvious lack of staff - all of those we did encounter could not have been nicer and more welcoming to us.

Apart from the apparent shortage of staff at Fota Island Resort on that particular weekend we had a wonderful stay in beautiful surrounds and this hotel is a must for a short break or a long stay. If you are thinking of paying a visit to Fota Wildlife Park the hotel offers discounts at the Concierge desk.
