A pleasant east coast South China Sea beach at Kampung Cherating. It's a very shallow bay with large sandy tide pools and stretches out for quite a way especially at low tide. The views are slightly marred by the city of Kuantan to the south and villa construction up the hill to the north, and the beach itself by some rental ATVs running up and down, and even a noisy remote plane. There is some surfing activity to the north side. There are a few low-key beach front resorts on the bay but they are mostly back quite away so don't detract from the beach itself. The beach is very popular with locals on a Friday late afternoon/evenings. There are a few local stalls and one restaurant very close to the beach but they shut down just after dark. Other restaurants remain open on the small main street one block away. Swimming is better at high tide as at low tide the level is only waist high for a long, long, long way out. It's not fabulous as far as world beaches go but is quite great as far as east coats Malay beaches go IMHO.
