“Style and grace....”
Reviewed 27 January 2012

I was lucky enough to be a quest at CastelBrando. I spent a weekend celebrating "Australia Day" with the Italo-Australian di Venato group/organisation and chilling out in the spa, and saunas with a kind a generous friend.
It's worth all you pay, the food is divine, the vine in this region is very good and the rooms are also lovely. We stayed at the bottom, but have a cable car to take us up to the castle. For some this may be an inconvenience but the view from the bottom and taking the cable car is worth it. Cison Di Valmarino is a very nice little town. Great for hikes and perhaps if there was snow on the alps even to get to the snow fields??

Even so, take the time to go and have a spa I think it was roughly 20euro per person for 2 hours and a half. Worth it!

Room Tip: Remember if you want to stay at the castle, check! Because there is the ones below the Castle and t...

We spent two days in Castelbrando, we used the spa for a few hours and we had really a lovely time. Being there on the 30th of December it was quite busy, but we managed to use all facilities that we wanted to use. If you want to be sure that you can access the spa, you need to book in advance, don't forget. We had also a 3 course dinner and we found it delicious.
We stayed in room 705, it is huge, you really feel in an ancient castle room. The decorations in the room and around the castle are fascinating and they have been lovingly restored.
The breakfast was fine for me, but for my english wife, it would have been better with tomato and mushroom (there were only fatty bacon and overcooked eggs).
We have been in the bar located in the old cellars, it is really nice.
We have really enjoyed it, it is nearly perfect.

We booked this castle because we were going to Northern Italy and happened upon a picture of San Boldo Pass. We wanted to drive that, and found this castle nearby. It was GREAT! We were definitely off season and about the only ones there, but that we liked that. The views were fantastic, the breakfast was great, the service was helpful and the experience was unforgettable. Be sure to check out the dungeon bar that you enter across from the front desk. It's quite a setting. We ate dinner at the casual restaurant and it was fine...nothing special, but the food was good. We didn't try out the spa. We stayed two nights and enjoyed every minute. Try to stay off the AutoStrada and take the back highways. The towns and villages are beautiful and the scenery is unmatched. And be sure to drive up San Boldo Pass. We have never seen anything like it. Great picture spot right by the uppermost light (you have to park a few meters away and walk down to take the pictures, but it's worth it, especially at dusk).

Our four nights at CastelBrando were absolutely wonderful. The location was truly amazing - up on the hillside and if you can get an historical tour (recommended) you'll learn of its strategic location in protecting Venice from invaders - fascinating. The spa was a weclome surprise and its long list of service were well delivered. I'd skip the junior suite option as the rooms can be 'odd' and althought spacious are not worth 'twice' the price. The regular rooms are small (it is an old structure) but definately comfortable and were fine for the four days. The 'hotel' is actually a converted castle with the two towers going back to (I think) 300. The Renaissance wing was built in the 1300s and the Barroque wine (where the lobby is) was in the 1600s. A little tricky to find if you arrive in the dark so I'd really recommend arriving when you can see.

Room Tip: Don't bother with the junior suite - the regular rooms are fine (but small)

We had a junior suite...loved the color scheme (pastel yellow and pink), great big room, but layout is odd. They built the bathroom in the middle of the room, so you can actually walk around the 'cube' that contains the bathroom, water heater, and closet. The tub is narrow. Bed was very hard. Loved, loved, loved the side chairs. Double door entrance is a bit odd, but thick castle walls are hard to work with. We were on the same level as the elevator, no stairs.

We bought the spa pass for 2 hours. Steam room, sauna, pool, sun deck, and Finnish foot bath (walk through 1 shallow pool of luke warm water, then 1 of cold water, both with pebble floor). My husband really liked the foot bath although I didn't care for it. I loved the jets in the pool.

Beautiful views, lovely courtyards, cute little chapel. There's a path above the hotel, we didn't take. A small grotto with a status of the Virgin and a small fountain. Gellato stand was nice, piped in music. They only had the pizzeria open for lunch and dinner, but the meals were good and the price a relief after Venice. Lots of locals. Breakfast was in a lovely room, decorated in pastels with paintings of 18th century ladies on the walls. This room is partway up the main stairway.

Armory museum - Free, and on a taped audio feed. We had it to ourselves. Interesting if you like that sort of thing (we do), but tape goes fast. Some pieces are reproduction.

We didn't have a car because we took the train from Venice. Getting there we used a taxi. Easy enough if you book in advance. However, there really isn't that much to do if you don't have a car. We walked around the two villages you can see from the castle. The funicular was closed until 5pm the 1st day due to maintenance. Very quaint. Nice churches.

After the noise of Venice, this was a very nice change. Excepting the hard bed and odd bathroom, I loved it.

We stayed there in August 2008 not in September 2010.
I don't know any words to describe the feeling of living like a prince with your princess next to you. I can't think of expressions to convince anyone to book as many nights as possible to this hotel. It's the best place i've been so far.
Yes you need a car, but don't think of it as a difficulty.
You will love everything in the area arround the hotel as much as the hotel itself.
If you can afford it, book a deluxe room.Worth every cent.
