I travelled with a group of over 30 on a Battlefield tour. The booking was made months in advance and it was the first time this hotel had been used. The rooms are really good and comfortable, light airy and modern. The bed supremely comfortable, bathroom small but well planned with good power shower in a large cubicle. The shower cubicle doors opened inwards so it was easy to get in and out and there was lots of space. In common with some European hotels, there was no kettle in the room but a machine in the lobby dispensed free coffee tea, chocolate etc. Breakfast was very good, with a good choice of different breakfast items. There was a very nifty egg boiler to boil an egg to one's taste. The problem was that on arrival, all assumed we could get a meal in the restaurant but we were told that since we hadn't booked a meal, there was no food and none would be available over the weekend. There had been no indication to us or to the organisers that this was necessary. The staff were obviously embarrassed and got taxis for us to go to the town restaurants. The manager of the hotel was not in evidence. The staff had no authority to change anything. Over the weekend, the bar ran out of beer, the bar ran out of change. We would normally have stayed in the hotel since it was out of town and it was estimated that the hotel could have made £2500 from our group during our stay. What a shame because it was potentially an ideal location.
Located on the ring road just out of town. It has it's own large car park so easy to drive to / from. Too far from the city centre to walk but Albert has plenty of free on road parking so you can drive there for dinner in only a few minutes. The hotel represents excellent value, it's clean and modern, the shower is great, the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good - plenty of choice and relatively cheap. My only criticism is that we could only book rooms with single beds.
Really enjoyed our 2 nights here. Surpassed our expectations! Had my father in a wheelchair with us. Everything was fully accessible for him. Surprised at the range of breakfast choices, all freshly prepared and tasty. Staff were really friendly and helpful too.
The Ibis is ideal for visiting the Battlefields of the Somme. Rooms very clean, staff very helpful. Breakfast was good but unfortunately they had problems with their evening meals which were sub standard with food under cooked or over cooked and our party of twelve could not eat together as they could not cope with this number of people at the same time. We did find an alternative restaurant in Albert so not all was lost.
Advice is stay at the Ibis for bed and breakfast and have other meals in alternative venues especially if you are a large party.
I'm a repeat visitor to the Ibis in Albert and enjoy the experience. Food good and service very pleasant. Basic amenities and the only reason for no top mark is poor Wifi. Good parking and in the heart of the Somme Battlefields. Highly recommended.
