My wife Noreen and I are older tourists(70's), seasoned veterans of Caribbean travel, but had never been to Barbados before. For the past 25 years we have pampered our bodies with 5* luxury in our holiday destinations, but on this occasion we decided to experience the 3* treatment of our earlier stoical years of marriage, and to save a few bob at the same time.

We booked a junior suite at the Worthing Court Hotel for 2 weeks ending 22 December. We were aware from Tripadvisor reviews that we should not expect 'fine dining' at anytime of the day, let alone 24/7. We availed of the hotel restaurant's continental breakfast on most mornings, but when we wanted the Full English/Irish, we chose to have the occasional lie-in, followed by our own in-house cooked breakfast, complete with traditional Irish soda bread and Kerry Gold butter, from the local supermarket (within view of the hotel), whose grocery goods carried the upmarket Waitrose markings.

Our junior suite was spacious, clean and adequately equipped with everything needed for survival in the modern age, even if a tad dated. Our 'room maid' Sharron (don't you just love that title) had 11 years experience at the hotel and was a ray of sunshine each day as she dealt expeditiously with cleaning and linen changing.

The hotel pool was pristine and looked inviting, but we didn't have a swim on this holiday, preferring instead to be out and about exploring the island and meeting the locals. Clearly the other guests loved the pool because they seemed to spend their entire holiday, sunrise to sunset, in a horizontal position on poolside loungers. Perhaps they were frequent returners to Barbados and already had the T-shirt for for local exploring.

Location was excellent. Within short walking distance of beach, banks, post office, supermarkets, bars, cafes and fine dining in the renowned boardwalk restaurants. If you like to pamper yourself with 'fine dining' we unreservedly recommend Tapas Restaurant with its excellent menu and views over the sea. Bookings at sunset time are essential. Bring your camera. But back at the hotel you can occasionally get evening dining. A meal during Karaoke night can be fun. Joy, who is Mein Hostess, chef, bartender, table waiter - and an excellent Karaoke voice to boot - is a joy. She even laughed at my old jokes.

But above all, the most appealing thing about Barbados is its people. They are even more friendly and welcoming than my own Irish people, and that's saying something.

Room Tip: Go for a junior suite if you want a little extra comfort, space and all home cooking facilities.

We have just returned after 11 nights stay and we were very disappointed with the overall service received.
The room was basic, but clean. However, it was in desperate need of renovation.
As soon as we arrived, we were told that the area was 'dodgy' and due to a Break-in a few days before, a Security guard had been employed by the Hotel.
Apart from Lancedale on Reception, the staff were grumpy and gave the impression that any small task or query was just too much trouble.
The Restaurant was never open and if we wanted to spend the day by the pool, we had to leave the Hotel to search for a snack at Lunchtime. Such a shame, this could be such a money maker for the Hotel. To provide reasonable poolside snacks for guests and it would encourage people to use the facilities at the Hotel. Many guests we spoke to, said the same.
On the whole, a budget hotel with budget ideas and no money to make things better, because they can't be bothered to try, in my opinion. BIG shame .

Great location in close proximity to beaches and easy to get around. Clean, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again on my next visit to Barbados. The staff was even nice enough to give me wake up calls

This was our first time in Barbados and we stayed at Worthing Court on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed. We would totally recommend the hotel. The staff were so helpful and friendly and we are planning to go back next year.
