This spot is nestled on an idyllic stretch of Caribbean beach and jungle, within the Sian Ka'An biosphere, a protected region rife with wildlife of all kinds and a huge coral reef, one of the biggest in the world. If you can brave the Crocodile Dundee outback road for two hours to get there (high-riding vehicle with 4WD strongly suggested, with good suspension), you'll be rewarded with a charming, clean, lovely, off-the-grid experience that will recharge your batteries and your connection with nature.

Only eight rooms available, and a small staff quietly devoted to meeting or exceeding all of your needs. Locally caught seafood (lobster, shrimp, tuna) on menu, cooked simply but deliciously. Quiet atmosphere. The bungalow we rented featured very lovely modern design with all the amenities, and some we never expected. Obviously put together by someone who cares about quality, tasteful design and comfort. Slept like a baby with the ocean waves audible from the outside all night nong.

It's close the small village of Punta Allen (more rutted roads) which holds the friendly locals, some restaurants and shops but mainly seems to cater to those who want a boat tour of Sian Ka'an, which we did and enjoyed. Worth the trip...we miss it already.

We stayed 4 days at the Sol Caribe in a « loft » with a beach view, and we would love to go back one day ! This place is a small paradise for couples. To be quite honest, I hesitated to write this review in the first place, because it felt like it should stay just the way it is right now: our little secret place at the end of the world. Hidden, remote, hard to access, in the wild... but sincerely STUNNING. That’s how much I loved the Sol Caribe. The hotel beach is simply phenomenal. The water is so crystal clear on sunny days that you can see manta rays swimming (no snorkel needed!!!). Eagles, cormorans and pelicans come to fish there all the time. We shared a boat with another couple to go on the « Ecotour » arranged by the hotel and saw eagles, flamingos, sea turtles, dolphins and even a lemon-shark ! It is quite an adventure to get there, but so much worth it. If you are lucky, you will even see crocodiles resting by the bridge over the laguna on your way to the hotel from Tulum (we saw a big one!) Foodies may be a bit disappointed by the hotel restaurant, but in their defense getting supplies must be a challenge in itself. The staff is doing a good job at offering 2 decent options for appetizers & 3 for the main course, plus 1 homemade dessert. However it opens only from 6 to 8pm at night... quite early for the unique bar in the hotel unfortunately !

Sol Caribe is a fabulous oasis in the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve.
It’s quite remote and a bit hard to get to but once you are there you wish you wouldn’t have to leave!
It has lovely beachfront constructions with fantastic rooms: soaring palapala ceiling, large walk-in shower, big double vanity & separate toilet.
Sam, the manager, has been absolutely the perfect host: always available for our needs, very kind and discrete!
Since our arrival he has made sure everything would have been absolutely special!
We still wish to thank so much Sam for everything!
The restaurant is managed by Antonio, who took care of us with an exceptional service.
The lunch/dinner chef is truly an artist with food and his seafood preparations are simply sublime! I loved the lobster for my birthday!
The guy responsible for the breakfast was really good too making our awakening in front of the ocean truly special! I loved the tropical fruits, the yoghurt, the granola, the bread and the jam!
Sol Caribe is definitely a great place for having relax and to turn off your brain!
We also have been very lucky to be the only guests during our stay and this has made our experience even more special and completely unique!
It has been pleasure spend part of our trip in Mexico in Punta Allen!

Hasta luego,
Maria & Mikel

If the price had been 30% less, I would have given a raving review. But this place is simply overpriced.

The location is great, with a nice private beach. The rooms are very simple to say the least. Food is poor compared to what you can get in the region. Service is almost non-existent, and when they are looking after you, the service is absolutely terrible.

We paid the price of a luxury hotel, only to find a room where the lights were not working, the curtains were missing (we had to insist on them hanging them up), the hot water boiler was off and the drinking water provided had been standing for a long period (as one could taste from the stale, plastic flavour). Most things got fixed after complaining.

For Mexican standards the restaurant is expensive. The food however is very basic and not very tasty.

Finally, we got charged for 3 adults even though my wife and I were traveling with a toddler (they supposedly do not charge or have a reduced rate for small children). However, we were told that the payment had already been made, therefore no refund could be made.

Room tip: Rooms facing the sea provide wind against mosquitoes

Looking to explore the Sian Kaan Biosphere, we searched for lodging options south of Tulum, Mexico. We came across Sol Caribe on several search sites and while you may think twice once you begin your journey down Route 15, Sol Caribe will be a welcome relief once you arrive. The lovely grounds welcome you, everything here is calm and serene. It is well done. One thing I can assure you, if you made reservations in Punta Allen, you'll regret not having stayed up the road at Sol Caribe. Lush and lovely flora and fauna populate the property. No matter which room you choose you can fall into in the Caribbean. If you came to get away from it all, you made the right choice. While not luxury, it is extremely accommodating. Solitude shall be yours if that is what you are seeking and it is welcome relief from a days outing in the Biosphere. The staff is friendly and eager to please. The rooms are nicely decorated in a rustic, comfortable manner. There is no a/c but you won't need it as there is always a breeze and ceiling fan to keep you cool. The restaurant is right there should you require food or beverage and true to form pays homage to local cuisine. It may not be 5 Star (nor need it be) but it is authentic and it is good. Our room was a path away from the ocean, literally 50 feet. We could sit and watch the sunrise from our palapa covered deck. It is intimate, romantic and inviting. There are palapas and beach chairs everywhere to simply take in life. If you're heading south from Tulum down Route 15 take your time, the road leaves a lot to be desired. We rented a Jeep knowing this would be the case and it served us well when we left in it what felt like a monsoon, we forded streams on the way back. As mentioned Sol Caribe will make the drive well worth it. It's not as "eco chic" as Tulum, but it is off grid, comfortable and lovely. You came here to get away from certain aspects of what Tulum has become and trust me I like Tulum, a lot. I think you'll like Sol Caribe as well. It's the best lodging from which to explore the Biosphere in my opinion.
