The main problem with Sol Caribe is actually getting there. I do feel sorry for all the hotel owners in the Punta Allen area as the road is terrible and must make a detrimental impact on their bookings. You are not supposed to take a rental car there, finding a taxi who will brave the conditions is very rare and those that will take you are expensive.
Sol Caribe is a charming rustic hotel but it is also an eco hotel. Thus the rooms are a bit dark in the evening and reading in bed is a skill as you have to negotiate the mosquito net. We were not troubled by mosquitos as it was so windy during our stay. Also no loo paper down the loo. Wi fi in reception.
The food is very good indeed however you may have to wait a while for your meal as everything is cooked individually to order. Usually a choice of 2 starters and 3 mains.
The swimming is good anywhere along the beach as is the fly fishing. Guides will also collect you from the lagoon side for a day's fishing.
I would definitely go back if the road was better. More
