Excellent service, best hotel in Cox's Bazar

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 29, 2012
We stayed in this hotel for 7 days and from the moment we were received by staff at the airport to the point where they checked us out and helped us board the plane, we received nothing but excellence in service, something that I am not used to seeing in Bangladesh.

Our stay included free airport transfer and although the flight was delayed, staff called me on my mobile to notify that they will be waiting for us at the airport. As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we had a quick check-in with no hassle and a welcome drink was provided which was soothing. They gave us a deluxe room at the 5th floor so that we get the best seaview from the balcony but I felt the sea was too far than I expected. So they provided us another room at the 4th floor but nearest to the sea as possible. Since then, we enjoyed great service from staff including the concierge and the front desk staff and the waiters who were very friendly and always smiling. We had a 2 year old baby and we needed his milk to be warmed up at odd hours of the day and the staff were always helpful to meet our requirements. They also sat with us to discuss the places to visit and how they can help to make necessary arrangement which was also something I found to be very useful and courteous on their behalf.

There is a kid's swimming pool in addition to a big one outdoors. It was great fun for my baby when he was playing there. There is also a spa which I used for a facial treatment and I felt so relaxed after that. Its well worth visiting should you need a thai massage or an oil aromatherapy. There were some original Thai staff for the purpose and they were good at their job.

To summarise,

Pros:

1. Excellent hotel accommodation, very neat and tidy, brand new feeling. Well furnished throughout and the bed is so comfortable that most of the time we didn't feel like coming out of the room
2. Great staff..great customer service, something that I have been craving for ever since I have landed here in this country
3. Peaceful and quiet location within easy reach of both Beach 1 and 2

Cons:

1. Food choices were not of 5* standard. We had complimentary breakfast but the same food were being served on buffet with a narrow range of choices
2. Rooms were not sound proof! We could hear noises from the corridor and luckily we went at an off peak period but at peak times, this may cause disruption
3. Hotel is not complete yet! The kids play area and most rooms were still under renovation

Overall, its the best hotel that I have seen around the vicinity and would love to go there again. And yes, be prepared to pay the 5* price because if you are a resident in BD, you may find everything a bit too over priced.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms with balcony are good enough but if you want a bath tub and be closer to the sea,...

Stayed for 2 days and a night in May 2012. The hotel has the best Ocean View rooms in all of Cox's Bazar. Make sure you get Ocean View rooms on the 4th and 5th Floors only. Other than the Ocean View room, there is nothing special about this hotel actually given the price tag of $ 100 per night (on season rate - $100; off - season rate is around $40). Food is terrible. For those who fancy waking upto an excellent ocean view, this is the hotel for you! For others who need good service, good food go check in to Long Beach Hotel or Seagull.

Room tip: Get Ocean View rooms on the 4th and 5th Floors only

i have visited the city so many times. each time i stayed at a different place. this was the best till now as a lot of other chain resorts are in progress. this hotel if good for families, corporate groups, friends as well as for lonely travelers as its safe, secured & luxurious. rooms are very comfortable to stay in. the staffs are very friendly always ready to serve and greet with smile. the main attraction of the city, the beach is in walking distance. they have a separate mini pool for the kids as well though small in size. they are also having the only SPA in town but the menu is limited and price is high. the other main thing not so good is their food. they have a wide range of menu to select from but some how i did not find them tasty. the desserts they serve in at the Kolatoli cafe is great.

We stayed at the Ocean Paradise Resort for two nights. Overall it was a very pleasant experience.

Room: We had asked for a Deluxe Sea View room with a balcony. The room itself was great. Comfortable bed and pillows, clean sheets, small but decent bathroom (the Superior rooms come with bath tubs, these do not), nice 32" flat screen TV. It was a bit of a stretch to call it a 'Sea View' room because when you step out onto the balcony you can just see the road and you have to crane your neck to barely see the sea. The room was on the second floor so the trees along the beach blocked most of the view. We asked for a room with a better view and were moved to a room a floor above closer to the sea. Couldn't really complain because the hotel was booked out. However, the Superior Deluxe rooms have a MUCH better view of the Sea and they should mention this at the time of booking (when I asked over the phone the difference between Deluxe and Superior Deluxe they said it was a little bigger and had a bath tub - NOTHING about the view being better). Other than that really enjoyed the room and found it comfortable and homey. One word of warning about inconsiderate local guests with children who talk loudly in the halls late at night and slam their doors when entering their rooms. Also they don't provide complimentary water bottles!! This is the first I have seen at any hotel I've stayed at.

Food: Dining experience was disappointing. (i) The Sea Grill restaurant on the roof has a limited selection and the preparation of the sea food dishes were very disappointing. Ordered the snapper and pompfret and the quantity was little and they overdid it with the hot sauce topping. (ii) The Curry leaf restaurant (which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner) was not much better. (a) Breakfast items are ridiculous. Only a selection of bangladeshi food (i.e. lunch time and dinner time food) like khichurri, chicken curry, etc. How is that breakfast?? They should have a selection of eggs, sausages, waffles/pancakes, selection of juices (were offering just ONE), cereal, etc. (b) Had lunch there one day and the beef burger was decent but the chili lime prawns were not very good (again overladen with sweet and sour sauce). (iiii) Ordered the late night room service one night and was (unsurprisingly) disappointed. They were having their 'monthly' kitchen maintenance and so the burger and sandwich items would take an HOUR to serve. They suggested we choose the local items like rice with chicken curry and beef curry as they were 'ready' and we had those but the chicken was hard and the beef was rubbery and it tasted a little stale.

Services advertised on website but not active: This was particularly annoying. The hotel claimed to have a bar and a sheesha lounge on their website (www.oceanparadisehotel.com) but in reality they have not started these services yet. Then why advertise it??? Write 'Coming Soon'!! They also advertised 'Free Shuttle to Himchori everyday at Sunset' services but again they have stopped providing this. Quite ridiculous.

Staff: The staff were very friendly and helpful in general. However, the concierge did not appear to be all that informative.

Location: The location is great and very near to Sugandha which is where the beach and where Mermaid Cafe (recommend going there for every meal) are. Rickshaws, CNGs are available outside the hotel. The hotel does not have its own accessible private beach yet but we were told that this would open 'soon'.

Rates: We got a corporate discount so the rates ended up being very reasonable but without discount it can be a bit pricey.

In general, a trip to Cox's bazar is always great so the little issues I mentioned above won't really ruin your trip. But I would recommend eating out when possible.

I have never seen a hotel in Bangladesh work so hard to make sure that everyone was happy! Not only did they take care of every detail but repeatedly went the extra mile. For example, they noticed at check-in that my birthday was during our stay and made a beautiful (and delicious) cake for me at dinner -- in the shape of a heart, with my name on it, and candles -- quite sweet! The rooms were clean and the ocean view beautiful. A trip to the spa is a must. Thanks Ocean Paradise.

Room tip: Ocean view is worth the money
