“Amazing holiday”
Reviewed November 30, 2017 for a stay in November 2017

Quick summary: beautiful comfortable villa, very friendly and helpful hosts Paris and Marie-Christine, excellent house keeper Dorine and magical island with stunning beaches and mountains.

The long story:

The villa - as in pictures and even better, comfortable with everything you might need for your stay including a decent wifi which is essential for us on our travels and makes it really easy to communicate with Paris and Marie Christine via WhatsUp. Plants in the garden have now grown so are a lot bigger than in pictures, providing a lot of privacy yet plenty of sunshine. The pool is perfect, while not big it's a decent size to cool off and swim a little. Paris very kindly helped us with organising our transfer from the airport to the villa by a private taxi, this was well worth it, as after a very long flight from the UK with a stop over in Dubai the last thing we'd have wanted would be to drive an hour while it's getting dark trying to figure out road signs (often not very clear or absent). Paris also organised for us a hire car delivered straight to the villa the next day by a great company, reasonably priced, no hassle waiting in queues to do paperwork, all of this was done at the breakfast table in the garden for a reasonable price and the car was spotless. Car is an essential unless you're happy to just stay in the villa and at the local beach, but Albion is well positioned to reach most of the island areas within an hour's drive. Would recommend using/hiring GPS, we didn't, we feel we're seasoned travellers and map readers but due to lack of road signs in places sometimes we just went on the gut feel and took a few wrong turns (also if you can avoid driving through Port Louis, do avoid it, rush hour can be really awful). We did enjoy driving around the island and exploring many beaches, mountains and going on a few hiking trips (very much recommend 7 Cascades/Tamarind Falls with Green Discovery, Prakesh).
Couple of tips: if you run out of hot water when Dorine isn't there, contact Paris, it's supplied via gas bottles powering the water heater (separate for upstairs/downstairs, we didn't know this as this detail isn't in the 'house book' and just assumed that because of a cloudy day we weren't going to get any hot water, then I decided to check with Paris and he helped us straight away. Also we diligently used all the alarms and security features and didn't have any problems during our stay.

Immediate area - supermarket (Dodo's) is around the corner 3mins walk and has plenty of choice and a bakery for fresh bread, baguettes and cakes. There's also a local restaurant La Murene, doesn't look like much from the road but we had several great tasty dinners (reasonably priced) when we didn't fancy driving further afield after a day full of adventures and staff was very friendly and helpful too.

The beaches - the local beach is nice and we went there for a couple of evening walks to watch the sunset, but it's a beach without any facilities and a bit rocky in places so we decided to hire a car and explore. Out of several we visited the following two were really good, Flic en Flac has plenty of space (one day we got lucky and saw humpback whales passing, mum & calf playing just off the reef for good 10-15mins), and Mont Choisy was nice and sheltered, but our most favourite was Le Morne that we just kept going back to, it was well worth the drive as it was idyllic and not too busy.

Two 'bad' things: we had to go home and leave this lovely peaceful place but we'll certainly plan to return. Also we didn't try Marie Christine's restaurant, we really regret this as we are foodies, but we didn't realise it's open for lunch only, so plan ahead if you're thinking of giving it a try - we'll definitely do this on our next visit.

Suggestion: with other villa rentals we often encountered a 'guest book' where people could share their tips and experiences from the holiday they just had and it is easier than trawling through accommodation/travel review sites looking for local recommendations about restaurants, trips, food, shopping, local knowledge etc. so I think it would be a great thing to have in Villa Pampas too. There is a 'house book manual' which gives you a lot of details about the running of the villa and Paris, Marie-Christine and Dorine are very friendly and always willing to answer any questions and offer recommendations, but a guest book would be a nice to have too. We'd recommend Villa Pampas and its hosts to all of our friends and family and definitely would love to go back ourselves. Thank you Marie Christine, Paris and Dorine for a fantastic holiday.

“Amazing place”
Reviewed September 13, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Villa is massive. Very clean and if you think it looks nice one the pictures just wait as it looks even better in real. Very nicely decorated. Pool and garden area well planned ,we have had coco nut, papaya and pasion fruit to try out of the trees in the garden.
From the balcony you can watch sun setting down.
Dorin the lady who looks after the villa is very nice and she can cook for you if you want to. Kitchen is well equipped but near by you can find few restaurants. Albion beach is just short walk away from the villa but I would strongly recommend to hire a car to be able to explore other places near by. Owners are nice and helpful, on arrival they will give you all information about the villa and area near by, communication pre and during the stay- excellent. I'm happy to answer any questions and recommend it to everyone.

A very nice villa, clean and tastefully decorated. Nice garden with pool. It is located in very quiet area with beach, restaurant and a well stocked grocery store in walking distance.
We got a very great welcome when we arrived and had great help from our friendly landlords throughout our stay.
The villa is their finest we rented when we were on vacation and we are already longing back. The housekeeper Dorine was very friendly and helpful but unobtrusive.
At the restaurant La Murene we ate very good food at a good price. There are also Albion Excursions who arranged several very good excursions to us.
A visit to Marie-Christine's restaurant Escale Creole was very nice with good food in a very nice environment.
