The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is situated near the airport and the local beach. Around the hotel you can find markets, tavernas and drugstores and auto rentals. Marirena is a nice hotel, suitable for a family holiday. Our room was big enough for 3 people. The prices are cheap, perfect for those who want to explore the island, not just to stay in the room. I strongly recommend renting a car because you can see the whole island in a couple if days. Breakfast was the only thing that disappointed me.

The hotel has a good position - near the beach and in the middle of Amudara, the rooms are spacious and colourful. But... Among other signs of neglect and poor service, for a 7 day stay our room was cleaned only once, there was a leak from the room next door, one of the lamps spread sparks each time lighted, upon request we received two additional blankets which where dirty, the staff was quite unfriendly and others... As a whole I do NOT recommend it

Dear Guests,
thank you for your feedback.
Please advise the period that you stayed in our hotel, since the room service is done every day. It is strange though, that when someone reports a problem at the reception (as you mention in the review) we fix it immediately. Awaiting for your reply in order to check what went wrong during your stay.

Kind regards

This hotel is in a perfect location, can't fault amoudara. The hotel looks great but our room was outside the hotel. Our room was spacious but really dingy. There were squashed mosquitoes all over the walls. It just looked neglected. The shower room was a good size but the drains smelt vile. The cleaner came in daily but literally emptied the bins and made the bed. The shower room, toilet wasn't cleaned all week, the towels weren't changed until I left them thrown on floor. Breakfast consisted of SPAM, cheese, bread and cucumber. Dinner was salad every day with more bread, and either liver, fish or boiled burgers. Mealtimes were a hurried affair. I went knowing it was 3 star, but this was a real budget hotel despite its appearance from the outside. We were the only English people there, which wasn't really a problem for us, it seems that the area is favoured more am the Germans and Russians and the English seemed to favour further east of the island. The village has lots of bars and tavernas and a great bus route. The locals were lovely and it seemed that every shop we went in they have us a glass of raki, so be prepared! We were there for a week and it wasn't really long enough to fully enjoy the island. We visited knossos which was great, and spinalonga which moved me almost to tears. Heraklion is great but the traffic is crazy, really mad! Yes I would visit amoudara again in a heartbeat but never will I stay at this hotel again.

Stayed for 10 days in August with my partner and her two boys at The MariRena hotel on a half board basis. I booked this holiday back in February and was a bit worried when I read some reviews before departing!! The Hotel is in a very good location, very close to the beach and close to restaurants and bars and shops. Hotel has a decent sized heated pool and the family room we had was adequate for us all. Room was cleaned every day and air-conditioning was free. Food was ok, breakfast was basic and the evening meal had different meats or fish every night with plenty of salads etc. The staff here are excellent, really friendly and helpful especially the girls on Reception and Marcos in the pool bar. We met George the owner, he works a long day at his hotel and he was always friendly so I cannot relate to what other reviewers have said about him. There is a bus stop opposite the hotel and we caught the bus to Knossos to visit the Palace stopping off at Heraklion on the way back for a look around. Just to the left of the Hotel is a excursion office where we booked a trip to The island of Spinalonga which was a great trip to do. A coach trip to the Gulf of Elounda in north-eastern Crete and then a boat ride to the Island. Again, if you turn left outside the hotel and walk along the strip for about 10 minutes we found a small waterpark called "Bravo Waterpark". We only found this by chance as we saw a small sign pointing to it down a small street so we decided to investigate!! Entrance was 4 euros each and this was for all day in the park. It only has three slides but is a hidden treasure. Nice pool with a zip-line running along the length with a life-guard overseeing the kids using it which was very popular, kids pool, restaurant, huge grassed area by the pool with sunbeds and umbrellas and the staff are friendly and it seemed to be a hit with the locals. We went there twice and loved it. We looked at going to the larger well advertised water parks with loads of slides but we liked the atmosphere of the Bravo park and it was only a short walk from the MariRena. When you go to the beach its worth sitting on the sunbeds at "Playa Plage" which is a two minute walk from the hotel. Here you can use the sunbeds all day and you only have to buy a drink. They have a bar which does food as well and an outdoor pool with sunbeds as well. The food in here is great and when we went to the beach we always had lunch, the staff are really friendly as well. We had a great holiday and choosing the MariRena hotel was a good choice for us.

Room tip: We had a room overlooking the pool which was great

The hotel is situated very close to Heraklion Airport, and has a very good location being both not far from Amoudara and close to the beach. The staff is friendly and well organized, and we were lucky (as there was a vacant room available) as Mr George, the host, kindly provided an early check-in to us. We spent 9 days in MariRena, and were very happy. The restaurant is very good and the prices are reasonable, and we would like to extend our special thanks to Marko, the barmen, who was really great!
