OK, so the beds are Chinese (hard, like an ironing board), and the stairs to the rooms are steep, but Joseph, the English-speaking staff-member, is the BEST! Kind, helpful, and caring.
The Inn was lucky to survive the fire, and is well-situated in the old-town.
No breakfast is included, but there's a good, cheap restaurant just steps away from the Inn, open for Bfast, lunch, and dinner (Chinese - no Western breakfast, which is fine by me).

The most friendly hotel staff ever. Makes you feel comfortable and warm. We went during the cold winter and late last year and they were really helpful and made a difference. Most buses and public would not or could not drive into the 'Old Town' and they practically walked out to help us carry our luggage and walk us in during the cold winter night.

The hotel facilities are decent and commendable and the location is just right. Situated in a quiet corner but close enough to amenities and attractions. Right opposite you have two eateries which serve decent food with decent pricing.

Will definitely return to stay if we visit Shangri-La again.

We are from New Zealand and we stayed in the hotel during the disastrous fire broke out. We were so lucky that none of us got hurt. The hotel itself survived from the fire. The staff were supportive and kind. We shared dinners by the fireplace. We played games and chatted in the candle light. We really enjoyed our stay there. Definitely we will go back again.

We booked the hostel only one day in advance but were picked up at the airport without any problems. The staff of the hostel is extremely friendly and even shared their dinner with us and assisted us for hours to organize the further trip.
The rooms are clean, decorated very neatly and have a heating mat available for colder nights as the floor heating is not fully enough to heat up the room in winter. The bathroom was clean and fully equipped. The location is quite in the center of Shangri-La next to Baiji Si temple and the romantic streets of the old town.
We had a very nice stay, thank you again!
