The hotel itself and its grounds shine after well advertised renovation. Everything is clean, chic and stylish. We were upgraded to a Jr Suite (thanks to booking through Platinum Amex) and it was undoubtedly the largest Jr Suite I have seen. So much so that TV was too far from the bed. Beautiful patio and views. The layout of the room is a bit impractical as the bathroom entrance is visible through a large window facing the walkway. So if you forgot to lower the drapes, you may be seen getting in and out of the shower from that walkway.

What was not on a par with hotel grounds and accommodations are the guest services. Because this is a small hotel with only 24 rooms, the front desk functions as guest services desk, including concierge. I sent an email few weeks prior to arrival asking to book 3 specific restaurants. First night's dinner wasn't confirmed timely, and the desk seemed unfazed by the fact that we would have no dinner arrangements for the arrival. The last night we were sent to a completely empty restaurant. We turned around and left, opting to go elsewhere.

In summary, this is a small boutique hotel which offers seclusion and privacy, for those who are looking for that. Coupled with fully renovated accommodations and overall better than average service, it is not a choice to be overlooked when thinking about Anguilla. To get to 5-star, the management will need to up their game in staff training, starting with the guest services desk.

We love Anguilla and have tried many properties and were eager to return to Malliohana as it was our first trip to Anguilla 15 years ago. The refresh of the property was very well done by keeping the charm and small feel of the resort while updating the rooms, creating a more contemporary lobby with views of the ocean and creating a better flow. The resort sits atop the best beach on the island and its true attractiveness is that it is small ~ 100 guests at maximum and lots of space to spread out and enjoy including two pools and a beautiful beach. No fight for chairs or worrying about finding a quiet spot. The beach has amazing access to great restaurants both casual beach shack variety and more sophisticated food in a casual atmosphere. Amazing food on this island. John the GM is an ever present and charming host. For all of this it is hard to complain but there are areas that need work. The beach has one makeshift bar and all food has to be delivered from the main kitchen up a hill so nothing come fast. The beach bathroom is in a room from the pre renovation days so has a shower and tub in it and is dated. The food service at lunch was very slow and often orders required some kind of change. I suspect it is hard to compete with all the offerings on the beach but this is an area that needs some work. The staff is very competent and generally friendly but at times seemed to be burdened doing the job. Overall we really enjoyed the resort but it feels like it is 90% complete in its renovation and needs to finish the last times to make this the best.

Wonderful experience. Amazing staff. Highly recommend. Make sure you explore the area. Very fun and safe to walk around. Beautiful untouched beaches. Some of our favorite staff members... Sam at the beach, Devon bartender, Courtney the bellman, all the ladies at the breakfast and concierge ladies.
We stayed at Viceroy last year which is also great but Malliouhana has something a little more special.

One of the nicest hotels my wife and I (33 years) have ever stayed. Five star accommodations and warm hospitality! The decor is unique and the rooms luxurous with awesome water beach views. Poolside with 2 side by side negative edge pools gave quite a view to Meads Bay beach and the rocks below. Top level hospitality at the pool by the entire staff as lunch and drinks are served at your request. You feel pampered here but also a nice touch of privacy. We initially saw this hotel in late 2014 and were thrilled to stay in January 2016. A real treat which I strongly endorse!

We have traveled to the Caribbean for many years, including visits to many luxury resorts and have also rented private villas. We recently returned from our first visit to the Malliouhana. This is a fabulous destination that excels at subtle luxury and pampering. We loved it and will surely return.
