We had to book at the last minute, and this was our only option. The reviews I'd read meant my expectations were low - but i figured it would serve its purpose as I was only really going to be using it as a base for a night. The rooms are in dire need of updating - they are tired and old, just generally tatty-looking. The reception doors get locked and you're not told about this at check in. That said, the man at reception was friendly. The beds were clean and comfortable and I got a good nights sleep.
We weren't shown where our rooms were - but on the way to find it there was an overpowering smell of weed that lingered throughout the hallways and only added to the damp and musty smell. Surely staff would've been aware of that?
Overall, I'd stay here again if I had to & would probably have a different view of the prices weren't so high (there's little difference between here and the chain hotels nearby). I think though, if you're going to charge those kind of prices, invest it back into the rooms - new matching bathroom suites, TVs that work, a lick of paint and new furnishings.
