Reviewed March 12, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Everything was perfect - well equipped, comfortable beds, plenty of heaters if cold, essential log burner, wonderful location -the best position in El Cedro, views from both bedrooms.
Only one downside that the lovely restaurant closed at 6pm so too early to enjoy an evening meal, and there are no other places to eat in the area. Home cooking was fine but need to stress the distance to the nearest supermarket and that it is a mountain road with hairpins etc...
Otherwise fantastic. Some books about the local flora and fauna would be a good idea?

Thanks for your review! We are glad you like your stay at Casa Rural Los Patos :)
The restaurant usually closes earlier on winter, but on springtime and summer is open til 21:00.
Thanks also for the tips on the books, we will take a look and we will add some to the house collection.
Best wishes from La Gomera!

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed June 1, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Whenever you're seeking s quiet, comfortable place to relax and do some hiking, this is the place to choose! Situated in the lush green valley of El Cedro, the Casa Rural Los Patos lies right at the edge of the Garajonay National Park with its fairy tale laurel forest. One hiking path starts right behind the house, and you can walk down to Hermigua from here - witrh gorgeous views! The house has everything, from fireplace to comfortable sofa to washer and drier (and even free WiFi!) to marvellous views and its own terraced garden with fruit trees (apple, pear, cherry, kiwi, lemon). Be woken only by the bird's concert, observe lizards and skinks (the shiny ones) bask in the sun in the garden, and discover new flowers (the endemic orange bellflower Canaria canariensis), plants and fruits around the house every day. I would recommend this retreat for nature and animal lovers and those enjoying the peace, for there is hardly any man-made noise up there - a rarity for us central Europeans! Even the Alps are not as calm as this valley. The place also made me very prolific with my writing, so I would recomment the Casa also to authors and writers.
We would go back there any time, and we've already recommended the house, and the island of La Gomera, to several of our friends.

The only two drawbacks: avoid arriving in the dark as the house is difficult to find then, even more difficult if the fog rolls up the hills into the cloud forest of the National Park. Antonio's guide with photos of the important crossroads though, which he sent us as a PDF, was a big help on the way. The welcome was great: there was already a fire built in the fireplace!
The other drawback is that the next opportunity to buy groceries is a bit far away, so one needs to bring along everything when arriving. We recommend the market at San Sebastian. There is, however, a very recommendable restaurant just opposite Casa Rural Los Patos on the other flank of El Cedro valley (10-15min on foot from the house) that offers traditional Gomeran food. I recommend their Patas arrugadas (potatoes) with Mojo sauces and their Potaje de Berros (Water cress soup).

“a little bit of everything in a beautiful place”
Reviewed July 25, 2014 for a stay in February 2012

I have stayed in this house a few times, during different times of the year and can attest to its true wonderfulness! It is a great choice for vacation at any time of the year, with friends, family, or your partner. The location is perfect because it is pretty secluded, allowing for privacy and intimacy, but is also close to a the beautiful forest and National Park of Garajonay, a unique mossy and fern-filled forest and there is lots of exploring to do nearby. La Gomera in general is one of the most beautiful places I have been to. Its beauty is overwhelming in a good way and due to its small size and geography, you can explore lots of different climates and landscapes in one place, from the mountains to the beach, to the forest.

The house itself is cozy but also has quite a bit of space and several rooms, in case you are going with a group. It is very clean with a well-functioning kitchen, a nice fireplace, and a lovely garden with kiwi and lemon trees and views of the mountains and sea.

I would recommend Casa Rural Los Patos to anyone interested in escaping the usual vacation spots, exploring their natural surroundings, and feeling at home in a truly special place.

“remote but beautiful house in a beautiful area”

We stayed at this house for 3 nights. Due to the poor ferry connections and delays we arrived fairly late so by the time we rented our car it was close to 9pm. We had communicated with the owner in advance so he knew we were arriving late and he told us how to get there and also that there would be a person waiting for us at the house.
The distance or even getting there is not so hard, but at night it is not a picnic. The last road you have to take to get to the area el El Cedro is a very very narrow road. You are practically in the forest while you drive this road, it is very nice but better done in daylight. We used a GPS as well as the instructions we had to get there. My husband had also found the place in Google earth which always helps visualize where you are going.
The worst parts were the tight curves and the very narrow road in a very dark location. Other than that we got to the house (there are signs for the house) and a person was waiting for us to show us the house and give us the keys. The road up to the house is short but VERY steep so you have to give the car plenty of gas.
The house is very large and there are lots of heaters to keep you warm. Also a nice fireplace with supplies to build a fire.
This was in June so we actually had one sunny and one cloudy day but not too cold and no rain. There are beautiful views of the forested mountains from the house.
This was a great location since there are so many trails that start in this area. The mature laurasilva forest is very nice.
Plenty of hot water and a well equipped kitchen to cook your meals. There is a restaurant/bar nearby, but the hours, as is the case in most of the islands, are not very long so it is best to bring some supplies.
A great location, a bit isolated. There is good cell phone reception so be sure to get the owners' cell phone number in case of any questions or emergencies. The owner apparently does not live here.
I would stay here again, but would try to avoid getting to the property after dark.

Thanks for your review!

We are glad you liked the house!, and that you enjoyed the hiking and discovering Garajonay National Park.

I'm sorry that you found the road to El Cedro hard to drive, as a mountain road it may seen difficult to handle but, as you sure checked during the day, it's a safe road to drive. We will take action, and we'll find a way to make this trip to the house easier for our guests (specially during the night). Thanks for the heads up!

Part of what makes El Cedro and Garajonay National Park such a beatiful place is the tranquillity and the incredible Laurisilva forrest. We have the fortune of having this house in a unique area where no more new buildings are allowed. The house is recently renewed, and has been part of my family since long time ago, that's why we take extra care and love on every detail in- and outside the house. It's nice to hear you appreciated the effort we put into it :)

We will love to see you again at La Gomera, you've been a great guest. Wish you the best back home!

We arrived in the dark, this is not a great idea. The remote nature of El Cedro and the house makes it hard to find. Get a contact telephone number in advance and the wonderful taxi people will help you find Casa Rural Los Patos. If you are driving yourself, even more essential to arrive in the light so you can find the road to El Cedro and navigate it.
The house is literally in the clouds, so in February it is quite chilly and damp.
The owners are helpful and once you have a contact number someone will be there to help... and quickly.
The scenery is wonderful and if you are walking it is a great place to treck from, especially if the cloud lifts. The nearest shops are a mountain away (literally), so buy food and provisions before you arrive. The local restaurant is basic and will not serve you if you arrive near to closing time at 7pm.
We loved the island and the walking.

Hello and thanks for your feedback!
We are glad you love the tranquillity of the house, the sourrondings and the walking through Garajonay National Park. As our house is located right at the doors of this National Park, we get the weather from the Laurisilva forrest (unique in the world), and this could be foggy during some days in the winter. Anyhow in the island we get very different weathers during the year, and once you move from one altitude to another (walking or driving) you can get full sunshine or cloudy weather even during the same day.

We are very sorry you got problems finding the house, we have take some actions to make this easier for our guests. We have set some signs inside the village indicating directions to the house. We also e-mail our guests with detailed instructions on how to get to the house, including our GPS coordinates. On top of that we provide inmediate and better telephone communication with our guests to make sure they arrive without problems.

Our goal is to make sure our customers are happy with our service. We value your opinion and thank you for contributing on TripAdvisor.
