A perfect house in a beautiful landscape. We had everything we needed to feel comfortable. A big thank you to our host...
The house is really inside the national park, at an altitude of 860m. When we arrived is was quite cold, also inside the house, but in a few hours the heating did it's job well. Every room has electric heating.
The views can be very nice, just keep in mind that on the north side of the island (the forest side) clouds will often come in the afternoon, just when (around noon) the sun reaches the house from behind the hills.
The really good thing about the house is that is a comfortable place in the middle of many hiking trials, it really is a hikers paradise. If you like it warm and sunny, this is not the best spot.
The house is great and the position and views are breathtaking. In inclement weather the house was warm welcoming, spacious and well equipped. The wood burner fire place was well used when we were there as it was cold and wet during our stay. the walking from the house was a lovely bonus as was the rural restaurant in this hamlet which opened until 7pm during our stay.
Marvellous place-the house is beautiful and has everything you need for an amazing stay in such a heavenly place. The cozy chimney and firewood create a lovely atmosphere together with the calm and quiet surroundings. There are fruit trees outside in the garden! And it's unbelievable how it's located right in the heart of the Garajonay, the Unesco guarded forest. It's a definite 10/10, spectacular time if you decide to go there with your family or loved ones.
Everything was perfect - well equipped, comfortable beds, plenty of heaters if cold, essential log burner, wonderful location -the best position in El Cedro, views from both bedrooms.
Only one downside that the lovely restaurant closed at 6pm so too early to enjoy an evening meal, and there are no other places to eat in the area. Home cooking was fine but need to stress the distance to the nearest supermarket and that it is a mountain road with hairpins etc...
Otherwise fantastic. Some books about the local flora and fauna would be a good idea?
Whenever you're seeking s quiet, comfortable place to relax and do some hiking, this is the place to choose! Situated in the lush green valley of El Cedro, the Casa Rural Los Patos lies right at the edge of the Garajonay National Park with its fairy tale laurel forest. One hiking path starts right behind the house, and you can walk down to Hermigua from here - witrh gorgeous views! The house has everything, from fireplace to comfortable sofa to washer and drier (and even free WiFi!) to marvellous views and its own terraced garden with fruit trees (apple, pear, cherry, kiwi, lemon). Be woken only by the bird's concert, observe lizards and skinks (the shiny ones) bask in the sun in the garden, and discover new flowers (the endemic orange bellflower Canaria canariensis), plants and fruits around the house every day. I would recommend this retreat for nature and animal lovers and those enjoying the peace, for there is hardly any man-made noise up there - a rarity for us central Europeans! Even the Alps are not as calm as this valley. The place also made me very prolific with my writing, so I would recomment the Casa also to authors and writers.
We would go back there any time, and we've already recommended the house, and the island of La Gomera, to several of our friends.
The only two drawbacks: avoid arriving in the dark as the house is difficult to find then, even more difficult if the fog rolls up the hills into the cloud forest of the National Park. Antonio's guide with photos of the important crossroads though, which he sent us as a PDF, was a big help on the way. The welcome was great: there was already a fire built in the fireplace!
The other drawback is that the next opportunity to buy groceries is a bit far away, so one needs to bring along everything when arriving. We recommend the market at San Sebastian. There is, however, a very recommendable restaurant just opposite Casa Rural Los Patos on the other flank of El Cedro valley (10-15min on foot from the house) that offers traditional Gomeran food. I recommend their Patas arrugadas (potatoes) with Mojo sauces and their Potaje de Berros (Water cress soup).
