Avoid the Family Bungalow

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 2, 2020
Punta Placer itself s amazing - the location right on the beach is wonderful. The regular cabanas seemed lovely, unfortunately we stayed in the family bungalow which is not as lovely as the rest of the property. It is above the restaurant and further from the beach - there are two cabanas on the beach (each with an up and down unit), two more set back from these, and then the restaurant with the family bungalow above. The bungalow itself is very cute with a large deck (where we spent most of our time) and the bathroom is quite amazing - it's an open-air concept, large, and very well designed. The 'master' bed is on the main floor, quite comfortable and good pillows. The beds upstairs in the loft weren't so great. The picture looks like it's a queen and then they describe another single bed - in actuality the larger bed is maybe a twin and the single is some kind of weird size that barely fit one person. The irregular bed sizes would have been fine had we been able to get any breeze through the place, alas, Punta Placer is right next to the fisherman's lane where they bring in their catch every day. That creates quite the pungent odour - unbearable quite frankly - so you have to choose between 'stinky air' or 'no air'. We chose 'no air' and it was HOT. They have fans but they just can't cool the place and you really don't get that much breeze anyway because the bungalow is set back and behind the other cabanas. Jamie, the manager, does his very best and he was very responsive to any issue that arose but he couldn't 'fix' the smell. Regardless, we had a fantastic time in San Augustanillo but were a bit sleep deprived for the three nights. Bottom line - don't hesitate to stay in one of the main cabanas but avoid the family bungalow. NOTE - the meals at the restaurant were really good as well - Guac was some of the best we've had!

We stayed for 7 nights and did not want to leave! San Agustinillo has definitely become one of our favorite destinations. It is so nice, quiet and the people are always friendly.
Our room was right on the beach, very clean and nicely painted. Every little detail of the cabana was absolutely fantastic. The „windows“ are only wooden sticks, no glass, so the ocean breeze can go through, but you can’t see through from outside. No aircondition (which only makes you sick anyhow!), but fans and a mosquito net around the bed.
There is a little restaurant there too, where you can get breakfast, lunch and drinks. Everyone is very friendly, especially Mariana, one of the managers!
She helped us a lot with good advice about restaurants and attractions and treated all guests like VIPs.
    Muchas gracias Mariana😘

The only things we missed was mats for the wooden beach beds and beach towels (use lighter towels with a different colour, so they don’t get mixed up!)
But also the latter issue could be solved by Mariana, as she gave us some old towels for the beach.
    But get some mats!
    Looking forward to come back!

Punta Placer is in a stunningly beautiful location, directly on a relatively quiet stretch of sandy beach featuring warm ocean water and lots of wave action! The accommodations are clean and comfortable, and the staff are more than friendly and helpful - offering any and all assistance - from special requests on the property to making recommendations and arrangements for taxis, restaurants, and tours. San Agustinillo offers some restaurants and shops directly adjacent and much more is available in nearby Mazunte. Lastly, a special shout-out to Ruby at Punta Placer. Thank you, Ruby, for taking such good care of us in the restaurant!

We loved staying at this little hotel. We had an upper room right on the water. It had a gorgeous bathroom, comfy bed and a perfect little deck with hammocks. San Augustinillo is a small little town with a great beach for swimming, boogie boarding and learning how to surf.

I’ve been several times in San Agus and this is one of the best options. The place is beautiful. Right in front of the beach, great view from any room, a nice hammock in your balcony, clean, good taste, beautiful details and comfortable. A queen size bed could have been better, but nice sheets and a super useful mosquito net.
We had to ask for a second fan because it is REALLY hot inside the room and sleep with the doors open, but it wasn’t too bad, you will sleep with the sound of the waves right in front of you. If you plan to use the sofa as a third bed, it will not be comfortable for a teen ager or older, just to small kids. It is not big enough and the mosquito net does not fit well.
The food is delicious, for breakfast and lunch. Veggie options and fresh sea food. There is no dinner service but is super well located, with a lot of restaurants walking distance. Right beside the great Termita pizzas, the best ones in the world, no joke 😜
The staff sweep ALL DAY, from very early in the morning, till they leave. So we woke up everyday with the sound of a broom. That would be my only complaint.
Massage service under prior reservation. Nice staff. Great stay. Would come back gladly.

We enjoyed our stay here very much as it was right on the beach, and we had a hammock (even if the hammock was wrung too tight and not as comfortable as it should have been). The shower could be higher pressure and the wifi isn't great.
