After 7 days of average Thai food up and down the main street we walked past Phensiri (beautiful moon) in Thai. This restaurant is right down the other end of Chaweng beach and well worth the trip down. Very clean, tidy and easily the best food we had during or stay in Koh Samui and pretty much all our multiple trips around Thailand.

We visited for dinner on the recommendation of one of the receptionists at our hotel. She said that it was very popular with locals, so this seemed like a good thing. I expected something quite low key, but this is one of the smarter restaurants on the outskirts of Chaweng. It is just out of the main (very busy) Chaweng area which I found to be a good thing. They have tables inside (air conditioned I think) or outdoors and it's quite a big restaurant.

The menu is vast and there were so many choices that it made it quite difficult to choose. They have everything from the staple Thai dishes to some really unusual dishes that I have never come across before. No doubt these would be much more popular with the Thai locals than Europeans.

All the dishes that I had were great, but the air dried beef was a little on the chewy side. On reflection, I think that this was how the dish was meant to be and I really ordered the wrong thing for my taste. The restaurant was busy and we went mid December so I would definitely book if you are visiting in high season.

Service was excellent and friendly and it looked like the owners were working front of house too. Everything was very slick and well run. It isn't surprising that it's so popular.

They have very good food and the staff are very friendly. I asked for an orange juice, expecting a pure one but wasn’t. As soon as told the waitress she was very kind and offered me something else.

Having read a review 'The best food on Ko Samui', my friend and I decided to check it out particularly as the restaurant was only 3 minutes walk from our hotel.

The stuff are super helpful and all smiles and they are really doing their best. They don't stop!
We ate here quite a few times as my friend enjoyed the food. I never eat for dinner so I only ever had either a starter or a dessert. Loved pancakes with fresh banana and ice cream. Mmmm ... delicious.

If you choose to come here have Thai food. I tried their bruschetta (twice) and French fries and both - overpriced and nothing like back home. Bruschetta hardly had any tomatoes (??) and plenty of mozzarella (??) - I like mozzarella so I went for it the second time and mostly because I couldn't find anything else I wanted.

French fries - avoid at all costs - the worse I've ever tasted. And I'm not even that fussy!
My friend liked all the main dishes (Thai) she had and my kale and pork dish I had for lunch one day was good. In the menu it says seasonal vegetables so I did expect more than just kale - I think there was some confusion on the menu - or I may have misunderstood as the title says kale and pork so yes, that's what I got. Despite misunderstanding, it was a very tasty meal and beautifully seasoned.

As I don't have 'proper dinners' but small snacks after 6-6.30pm it was a bit harder for me to find something light and airy to eat.

I like mango lassi so I ordered it the very first night we were there. It was divine - smooth and creamy and I absolutely loved it.

So, the following day I ordered the same - mango lassi. This time it arrived mixed with ice. It was nothing the one I had the night before. I asked the waiter how they make it and he confirmed ice is being used. I apologised and asked to have one without ice. They were fantastic in their response. Took it back and brought back a better version (not to the same standard as the night before).
As you can imagine, I asked for the same the following night and this time I said I didn't want ice. Again, the lassi was a watered down version of the one I had on the first night.
Last night I was given mango lassi so watered down you wouldn't know it is supposed to have yogurt in it! I returned it again and the new 'version' wasn't any better. I didn't drink it in the end... shame as I know they can do better.

So, yes, sometimes I wish I drunk alcohol - you can't really find fault with it, can you? And my friend feels on edge every time I try my drink scared I'd return it! I don't feel good having to return it and this is the first restaurant I did - probably because of the beautifully made lassi on the first night.

If we go there in the next two days I won't be ordering it again! I suggest the restaurant should adopt the consistency in making drinks that are being mixed. My expectations sky rocketed following the experience on the first night (it was the best mango lassi I had) and climaxed in huge disappointment 4-5 days later! Such a shame.

If you have low expectations of what mango and yogurt should taste like go ahead and have it. But if you are after an authentic drink don't waste your money.

I also didn't like it when a waiter used his hands when handling mango fruit on the tray - pressing it down with his bare hands - hands that touched many things up to that point. Basic hygiene here would warrant using gloves if you're doing it in full view of your customers or do it away from the curious eyes - what eyes can't see, eyes won't imagine. That alone would put me off coming again. There again, if this is done in a place like this, I dare not think what is done in restaurants that are more basic.

In conclusion, Thai food seems to be well prepared and tasty (my friend really enjoys it) but I don't think their international dishes live up to their name. Best avoid. Besides, in the words of my friend; 'Why would you have Italian dish in Thailand? They can't make it as well as Italians, can they?' She is right!

And yes, service here is good and the stuff go out of their way to be helpful and ambience is friendly and lovely. If it wasn't for French fries and mango drama I'd have given it a better mark.
