This was a recommendation from the owner of our B&B in Scicli and it was so good we came back twice more during our stay. The restaurant is a little to the side of the area where most of the tourist places are on Via F M Penna, and each time we could sit at an outside table and watch the world go by without being bothered by crowds.
The menu is fairly short, but there are also daily specials.
On one occasion we went for aperitivo intending to have a pizza aftewards, but by the time we had enjoyed the 7 or 8 small dishes that were brought (all for €7 each!) we decided we had eaten well enough. Everything was clearly freshly prepared and typically Sicilian.
On the other occasions we had a conventional meal, once with pasta and once with fish. The quality of the ingredients was excellent and I particularly enjoyed the mixed fried fish, but the steamed cod was apparently also very good.
This is also a “vineria” with a relatively small wine list, not restricted to Sicilian wines, but featuring several interesting local items. As with the food, prices are very reasonable and quite a few wines are available by the glass. We particularly enjoyed a red Frappato and a white Grillo. Wine is obviously very important to Umurra and they are keen to let you taste before you decide.
The staff were very welcoming and very aware of any needs, and seemed to appreciate our return visits. The décor inside is modern and attractive.
