Auberge Le Chardon
Reviewed 24 August 2013

I stayed for 5 nights with my two daughters recently. We had a great holiday but unfortunately it wasn't long enough. Auberge Le Chardon is a fabulous place to stay and Gus and Caroline are wonderful hosts. The hotel is close to Vallon Pont d'Arc if you are planning to go canoeing (which we did - I can recommend that too) but unlike Vallon Pont d'Arc, Vagnus is quiet and relaxing. The rooms are simply furnished but are clean and the beds comfy. Would I stay there again - definitely. Oh, and Caroline cooks a great steak!

I was fortunate enough to be able to pop out to the South of France for a long weekend and stayed at Auberge Le Chardon again.

The hotel has been improved since my last visit with some new windows and some of the rooms now have en-suite toilets, as well as the showers and hand-basins that were there last time I stayed.

Gus and Caroline haven't changed - they are still as welcoming and laid-back as ever.

This isn't a 5-star luxury hotel and it doesn't pretend to be. It's location in the beautiful village of Vagnas, well away from the noisier tourist area of Vallon Pont d'Arc, give it a fantastic charm and I can't recommend it highly enough

I recently had the pleasure of staying here for a week. The rooms are spacious, clean and have modern bathroom facilities. The hotel is comfy and being 300 years old was a very different experience for an Aussie. I highly recommend it. The very friendly and helpful hosts Gus and Caroline answered my many questions and knew everything about the area. The food was wonderful and prepared by Caroline. The village is very pretty, quiet and close to many other lovely villages. There is plenty to do in the area from wine tasting to canoeing. Give it a go whether you are on your own or travelling with a group. I love this part of France and will certainly be back

Gus and Caroline were the perfect hosts aided by Eva and Scott. Nothing was too much trouble and with perfect local knowledge, we were able to make the most of the area and its beauty. Will definitely return in the future as there is still more to see.

Found this auberge through Tripadvisor. I was looking for a good value place to stay near canoeing, on the way down to the S of France, not too far from the autoroute. I never expecetd that we would luck-out quite so much. Gus and Caroline were lovely, fun hosts, always helping when they could and happy to introduce us to local friends, especially at the village fete that was happening that evening. The rooms are basic, but spacious and clean, and the village itself it beautiful. Highly recommended.
