Amazing! Can't wait to get back to the Nutty Mermaid! Beautiful house, sand and waters! Beautiful views!
We found a perfect spot in Abaco, quiet and a mile Long Beach to ourselves. Well appointed Home and grounds. Sea turtles, lobster and snapper right out your door. The owner was fantastic at communicating and orientating us to the home and the island. Went sightseeing and bottom fishing with Captain Thomas Sawyer. Pete’s Pub and Grill in beautiful Little Harbor is a must! Will definitely be coming back!
We've rented vacation homes in the Bahamas multiple times and this was by far the best experience we had. Michelle is incredibly responsive and helpful and that set the tone for the whole experience. The beach and water is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the sun and sand. It was the best beach I've been to for my 4 year old. She could play in the water while I sat on the beach, because the water was so calm, clear, and shallow near the shore that I had no worries. But a short distance away, you'll find some awesome snorkeling and the little islands near the property were fun to swim or kayak to. It made it feel like an adventure. We had a great time looking for seashells and even found a few sand dollars. The house is equipped with everything you need to enjoy both the beach and the water.
The house was also perfect for our group. It's rare to find bedroooms with all King size beds and they were comfortable -- another rarity! The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you might need. One small issue we had in the house was immediately remedied by the caretaker, who was there in minutes, despite the raging rainstorm we were experiencing.
We spent more time at the house than anywhere else. But it was nice to have Treasure Cay right up the street. We spent some time at Coco's and their amazing beach. The best beach we found as far as sheer beauty and nice waves was on Guana Cay, just a short ferry ride from Marsh Harbor. It's in front of Nipper's, which was a fun place, but a bit crowded for us (because were were there on New Year's Eve). We also spent a little time at Snappas and elsewhere in Marsh Harbor. Every place we visited had a very friendly atmosphere and we even spotted a few celebrities.
We can't wait to visit the Nutty Mermaid again!
We found the Nutty Mermaid in our search for a Honeymoon destination it was more than we expected. First, the house is clean and well supplied/equipped. Beach was beautiful, even more so than depicted on website pictures. Snorkeling, fishing, kayaking (yes, they come with the house), and relaxation. Beach walking, shells, and more green sea turtles than I would have believed. Short drive to restaurants and shopping... Leisure Lee was quite and very private. Overall, could not have been a better experience.... Winner!!!!!!
What a wonderful location and house! Even with the great pictures on the website, we had our breath taken away when we arrived. If you are looking for a private and relaxing vacation, this is the perfect spot for you. The house is welcoming, spacious, clean, and comes with great amenities. The kayaks, floats, and snorkeling gear provide hours of entertainment. There are also bicycles available, but we couldn’t pull ourselves away from the views to use them. It is situated between two cities, so there are a few restaurants available in both directions.
The house has to be located on one of the best spots on the island with absolutely stunning views. The water is a beautiful color, clear, and calm (assuming you have good weather) allowing easy viewing of fish, sea turtles, and rays. Privacy is abundant as there are no houses on one side of the house and plenty of space between it and the one on the other side. You can go hours or even days without seeing anyone else (a single neighbor or two) on the beach or snorkeling. We started every day watching a sunrise and ended most evenings staring at the Milky Way, which too few of us get to see due to light pollution. The hammock makes for a great place to read and unwind. The only disappointment encountered was having to go home at the end of our stay.
If you are looking to get away and enjoy some relaxation, I highly recommend the Nutty Mermaid. Michelle and the caretakers are very responsive to any needs and were a pleasure to interact with. We have never liked the idea of vacationing in the same area twice because there are so many places to see, but we have added this gem back to our list of potential destinations for future trips!
My wife and I celebrated our 30th Anniversary by booking the Nutty Mermaid. This house is in a great location and has a semi-private beach (just you and a few neighbors that you may or may not see) and the house is wonderful. It has incredible views of the water, fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and was very clean. We cooked most meals there since restaurants are far and few between (but Treasure Cay is nearby and Marsh Harbour isn't very far and both have restaurants). We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the island. We drove south to Sandy Point Beach, had a picnic and picked up shells (all the beaches had shells) and stopped at several great beaches on the way home. There are so many great stopping points up and down the coast. We visited Pete's Pub and the Long Dock in the Little Harbour/Cherokee area. Lots of beaches but very few people! Just what we wanted. Treasure Cay is a great stop with a beautiful beach and a small market (we picked up most of groceries at Maxwell's in Marsh Harbour). The neighbors that we did meet were very friendly but respected your privacy. We made several new friends. Snorkeling right behind the house and plenty of water toys to use (kayaks, sunfish sailboat, floating chairs, snorkeling gear, etc all there at the house). Owner, Michelle, and Joy the caretaker were great to deal with. We will definitely be back!!!
This review is long overdue as we had the best time in our 7 years of father/son fishing trips to the Abacos. We normally stay at Lubbers Cay on a boat only Cay but saw this house and took a chance. We are a group of dads and their sons and were looking for an isolated location that allows us to spend quality tie together and with our sons. The Nutty Mermaid met and exceeded our expectations - read more and i will elaborate.
Being on Marsh Harbour provided a unique option for us as we could get to the house by car and feel like we were at a private island (is an island). Our group of 3 dads an our sons arrived at different times and the proprietor provided us all the info we needed to rent a van, find the house and get our boat to the location. It is about 20 minutes by car/taxi and about the same by boat. They have a mooring out front which is perfect in calm seas but also arranged for a dock on the inlet behind the house for a ridiculously low price. We typically unloaded at the dock and moored at the beach except for one night which we were worried about the weather.
Upon arrival, the caretaker saw us drive in and arrived as we were walking in to show us the lay of the place. Very helpful and lots of recs for fishing and restaurants. House looks like it could be in any suburban neighborhood in the US until you walk out back. Private beach which is steps away with nobody in sight. Unlike our other Abaco spots, we could swim, snorkel, fish, sail, paddle board, and you name it - 30 paces from the Nutty Mermaid. We caught as many fish using our Hawaiian slings off the beach on the islands that are 100 yards off the beach as we did out on the deeper water.
Best part of our experience was gathering driftwood every afternoon and having a fire on the beach each evening. Priceless and usually lasted late into the night with a moonlight swim. House was very casual and the only downside was trying to get the NBA finals on the TV which we were unsuccessful so we went to the marina in Treasure Cay which was an unsuspecting surprise as it was packed with crazy people in Cleveland and Warriors jerseys (kids had a ball).
As compared to our boat only trips, we loved being able to go to Maxwells grocery to get loaded up with food as we ended up cooking most our meal in the house (inside and BBQ) which saved us a ton of money from buying food in the marinas. Please note, most of the liquor stores close at 6pm on weekends and are closed on Sundays. We arrived on a Sunday and all took advantage of duty free.
Planning on going back again and thank you to the owner for putting up with a bunch of BOYS, big and small!
