We went to Ti Kaye for our honeymoon from the end of July to early August of 2005- we read the reviews on Tripadvisor and hoped for the best. We were so happy with our choice!! The staff is amazing, so friendly and accomodating. We spent our honeymoon in Bobol- and oceanview room, and in our opinion was one of the best cottages at the resort. We were up on a hill with an almost unobstructed view of the ocean. We were out on the corner of the resort, so it was very private. We did not have a plunge pool, and we definitely did not miss it. The outdoor shower is just enough to cool down on the hot days. The hammock on the front porch provides an extra touch of island living, perfect for evenings and the one rainy afternoon we had! The king size bed with mosquito netting was also very comfortable!
We were up each morning for breakfast between 8 and 9, which was fabulous! Pancakes and omlettes were our favorites! The fresh fruit was amazing, we filled our plates with fruit at least twice every day!
We spent most of our days on the small, quiet, black sand beach, which was spectacular. Clear warm water and gorgeous fish greeted us each day! The snorkeling in this area is great, which is why many other resorts send their guests over, therefore, you will encounter between 5-10 different boats coming in and out of the bay each day. They never disturbed us though, except one day, there was a "party" boat that docked there- they played some pretty loud annoying music, but they were only there about an hour and they all stayed away from where the Ti Kaye guests were. We kayaked a lot- the waters are calm- a definite must to get a better view of Ti Kaye from the ocean!
We also did a few tours, the rainforest tour- not for the weary!! It's a hike downhill, then back uphill- bring your sneakers and your bathing suit- the waterfall is AWESOME!! We also went to Castries- which, besides the boat ride there, was kind of disappointing- good thing you are only there for a few hours! Although we did enjoy seeing the way the local culture. We visited the library and Derek Wolcott Square, and did some shopping- which I always enjoy!
We were going to rent a jeep one day and explore on our own, but we opted out of this at the last minute. There are a few hidden charges not included in the initial price, like a one day license, and added insurance. We were actually very happy we didn't do this in the end, as the roads are very difficult to navigate and it would have added some unnecessary stress to our very relaxing honeymoon!
The dinners were always delicious- my husband and I would each try different meals and share- there is usually a beef, chicken and seafood entre choice. If you love seafood, you can't go wrong here- the mahi mahi was awesome! Desserts are typically soaked in rum- but are a nice top off to a fabulous meal! Tax and tip are included in the price of your meal, but you can add a bit more if you received excellent service- which we always did. One night was a buffet, which was a lot of fun- live band playing and LOTS of food to chose from- we had a great time that night! Dont miss the fish fry on Friday night- it's a great chance to meet some locals and party St. Lucia style!
We drank mostly Piton and Carib for beer- warning- the beers are smaller than US beers but packed with an extra punch of alcohol!! Pilgrim makes an awesome pina colada and strawberry daquiri. Cleus was a riot! Always happy and cracking jokes!
Word of advice- we flew out of the international airport- the "big" airport- which was a bit of a drive, but well worth it. While we were there at least 3 flights were cancelled out of the smaller, closer airport for weather related reasons. We had no problems flying out- but make sure you arrive early, the lines to check in get very long!
In sum, we had a wonderful time at Ti Kaye- the locals are wonderful, gracious hosts- we would go back in a second!! It's relaxing and romantic, and with all the tours available to you, you can make it your very own adventure!! Enjoy!!
