It was a hot sunny day in July when our family of 4 visited the town of Caravaca. It was useful to find the tourist information office open and helpful in a booth at the side of the road. After seeing the sights in the town and walking up to the castle/ church we were ready for lunch. The tourist information had told us about the Fuentes which is a scenic walk along a lovely stream full of large fish and shaded by Maple trees. It is part of an historic estate previously owned by a Marquis (hence Marques) with explanatory boards at different points.
We went to the restaurant - Fuentes del Marques - first getting there about 2pm and I would advise that you arrive no later on a Sunday as it soon filled up.. Many tables were reserved but we were given one of them by a window and it was lovely and cool with the air-conditioning. The staff were friendly and we spoke in Spanish but they understood English. Our drinks order was swiftly taken: 2 small beers=4 euros;coca-cola= 2 euros; large bottle water 2.50 euros, and a bottle of very nice Rose wine (Navarra) at only 6.50 euros. A plate of toasted bread with tomato or garlic dips arrived (free) but the bread roll each cost 4.80.We shared a salad starter and had fish mains (Merluza) and sweets for the 4 of us. Coffees were 1.40 each. If you had a sweet (3.50each) you had a choice of free liqueur (bottle left on table!). The total bill for the 4 of us was 101.86 euros for an excellent meal, wine service and surroundings.
We all thoroughly recommend it and would make the 1 1/2 hr journey from Los Alcazares again to enjoy it.
Afterwards, we had a gentle stroll along the river enjoying the scenery and the size of the fish in the water.
The telephone number for the restaurant is 9687000087
