Tiger’s Heaven Resort
Truly, a gem of a find in over-priced Bandhavgarh. Tiger’s Heaven Resort hides behind a non-descript kind of a gate right next to the fairly famous Golbro Tiger Resort or GTV Resort. Tiger’s Heaven on the other hand is absolutely not known but definitely worth staying at. A newly-built place with 5-6 rooms and some parts still under construction, it does not have the facilities of a five-star but it compensates through service and a serene atmosphere.
The service is the USP of this place. Although the place does not have running hot water (except in one room), the staff is more than willing to provide it on demand. They even come in the morning at 6 am to check if you need hot water for a wash-up before hitting the tiger trail. Smiling, uncomplaining and willing service was the high-point of our stay here.
The restaurant is under construction but that is temporary and the staff is more than willing to stop the construction work if you so wish it. Also, meals are served wherever you wish – in the garden, on the porch, in the room etc. So lack of a restaurant did not really inconvenience us.
The rooms are very spacious – the bathroom being large enough to accommodate a bed – and very pleasantly furnished. Since the place is new, the rooms are practically unused and there’s a nice new feel to them. The overall décor of the place is nice. Soothing, pastel colours adorn both the exterior and interiors, cane chairs are strewn along the porch and the handkerchief-sized patches of garden strewn around add bright colour to the place.
On the down side, the rooms tend to collect the wildlife around. One of the rooms had two frogs- one alive and one dead – and one lizard (alive) in them. The other room’s bathroom had lizard droppings and subsequently a nocturnal visit from the lizard itself. Being this close to nature does have its disadvantages! They did offer us the use of any of the other unoccupied rooms but one of the others had a dirty bedsheet so it wasn’t much of an improvement. Of course, all these issues were rectified immediately and smilingly but if the place has to make its mark, it will need a mite more focus on constant cleanliness as opposed to cleaning up only after the guests have arrived. (This could of course be a function of not limited occupancy, perhaps we surprised them with our arrival..:))
The food is basic and you can get as good food outside in one of the dhabbas too. But the atmosphere of the place is so peaceful and beautiful that one is tempted to have one’s meals under the shady structure that they have set up in the garden. We whiled away quite a bit of time under that structure photographing the flowers and watching geckos playing around.
