This island is large enough to stretch your legs around and small enough to get around.
It isnt huge yet has a number of lovely restaurants - I really couldn't choose one best as they were all very tasty - the island has its own herb garden and you will sample tasty dishes made with herbs that are awesome. As it was our honeymoon we were treated to a complimentary candlelit evening dinner on the beach - the pistachio creme brûlée dessert was the best I have been lucky enough to eat. Being an island there is a plentiful supply of seafood cuisine, however if like myself, you aren't a seafood person there is an abundance of freshly prepared dishes and the fresh fruit and juices are local to the area and very refreshing. I remember being amazed at the standard of fare they offer, given that this is an island and didn't see any large aircraft flying in provisions.

We did the complimentary snorkelling and then the sea turtles snorkelling trip where you hope to see one. That is amazing. In the safe hands of our Italian guide we travelled by boat out through neighbouring islands to the coral reef. Once in the water we entered a magical underwater world. It wasn't long before our guide saw one and we were able to watch as it dove down to the coral seeking food. As they are now an endangered species you are very conscious of how lucky you are to be able to view them (taking care to keep your distance and also not touch the coral reef which is delicate and takes a long time to grow).

The staff who work on the island are happy but relaxed and you quickly feel the same.

The Lux manager is an infectiously amiable chap - he and staff greet you on arrival you seaplane and also wave you off - he is also very hands on as he was our driver giving us a lift back to our room after a meal one evening - they proved free transport around the island by electric car/bus which offers a welcome breeze and is also fun and enables you to have brief conversations and swap information/tips with other island guests. We spoke to people from many countries and that was a lovely aspect to the holiday. At the same time we were also able to spend quiet hours relaxing on almost deserted beaches by ourselves. It really was a perfect destination.

In essence, the accommodation was outstanding, the location is just amazing - and for a lifelong memory you must get into or at least onto the sea - then you know you are in the Maldives.

The only problem I encountered was with the local insects and I'd recommend taking your own anti-histamines with you if similarly affected. However there is an island nurse and doctor should you need one and they were efficient and friendly. My husband didn't have one bite and I only saw 3 other ladies with insect bites like me - and the cool pool water calmed the skin and bites down quickly.

I must just say also how fantastic our fflights to get there were. On the 10 hour flight the Edelweiss aircrew were outstanding - they fed and watered us regularly, we had blankets and a pillow and a fantastic screen each offering an abundance of films, tv programmes/documentaries, music (they gave us free headphones) and games. Never a queue for the toilet.

All in all a wonderful trip and would definitely recommend without hesitation.

Room Tip: The pool rooms on the centre of the island are a good location as central to everything.

Amazing resort, lots to do and staff were best I've ever experienced ! From our housekeeping attendant to reception we were looked after thoroughly all the way through. Despite having a major hiccup with transport to the island via the domestic flight company the Lux team came and found us and put us in their airport lounge and transported us on their seaplane.

Apologies for the long review but there is so much to share.
We stayed at the Lux for 10 days in December and had, without a doubt, the most wonderful and relaxing time.
The Lux team met us at the airport and took us to the dedicated lounge to wait for the seaplane transfer. The lounge was lovely, with snacks and refreshments. We waited for about 30 mins, but during this time we completed registration documents which saved time when we actually arrived at the resort.
Our room at the resort was a Beach Villa on the sunrise side, overlooking the lagoon. Even though the island is quite large (by Maldivian standards) we hardly ever saw any other people on the beach near us – often it felt like we were the only people there. The room was perfect, with an outdoor bathroom (with huge bath and two showers). Our room was looked after by Eman and he was amazing. Every day he prepared fantastic towel art and on a few occasions ran bubble baths with flowers floating on top – such as nice touch.
The food was outstanding. We, like some other reviewers were a little disappointed that Umami and East were closed for renovation, but to be honest we had plenty of choice elsewhere. It would hard to pick a favourite restaurant all were excellent, with great choice. We even got to meet the chef in senses after we said how much we loved the curry we had eaten one night. He was lovely and so happy to talk to us.
I have to mention the coffee and ice cream that the Lux prepare on the island. Make sure you try the amaretto flavour and ask for a waffle cone, which they make fresh whilst you wait… wish I could have one now!
The Spa is wonderful, if a little pricey. But, when you are on holiday, you have to have treats. They have a number of treatment rooms over the water where you can watch fish swim below you whilst you have a massage.
We paid for a few excursions from the water sports centre looking for whale sharks… unfortunately we didn’t find any (although we heard that many others did see them). We did, however, see a blue whale, and a large dolphin pod which were fantastic. During these trips we stopped and snorkelled at a few locations and saw turtles, rays, beautiful fish. We also stopped at a deserted island which really gave us the Robinson Crusoe feeling.
One additional point about snorkelling. It is fair to say that the coral accessible from the beach is nice but not as good as can be found at other resorts. There are some nice patches of coral where you can see some smaller fish but the hotel does offer free trips twice daily to the house reef. You have to take a quick snorkelling test before you can sign up for the trips (if you are PADI registered you can tell them this and then you don’t need to do the test)
There are many free activities offered including a quiz (which we won a Spa treatment at!), bingo, movie nights etc., I really liked the message in a bottle concept, even though I didn’t find one until the last day (after some help ). I also like that they have a red telephone box where you can phone home for free. It’s the little touches like this that contribute to a perfect holiday.
The main thing I have to mention, is the staff at the resort. They are simply amazing. I cannot praise them enough. Nothing is too much trouble, they all took the time to chat and find out about us. We loved talking to them as well, particularly about Football (lots of English Premier League fans there who want to talk about their favourite teams).
It’s hard to single out specific members of the Lux team as they were all amazing but special thanks go to;
Eman (mentioned before) for looking after us and making sure the Villa felt like home for 10 days.
Shaheen & Pillip at the Beach. Fabulous pizza – you must try one (or several!)
Nafha at Senses. So much fun and always smiling.
Sadjih, Fai, Hussain and Shaad in the Island kitchen. Try the pancakes in the shape of a rabbit or whale – great fun!
Robin from Lagoon Bar. He made the best waffle cones for the best ice creams.
Imdah in Aleggria.
Thank you Lux for the most wonderful holiday. We hope one day to return to your beautiful paradise.

Room Tip: Room 236 on sunrise/lagoon side was perfectly located in the middle of the Island

I never usually write negative reviews - just good ones! This hotel is certainly not to 5 star standard - the room just 3 star! Certainly so much lacking - thank goodness they upgraded the room. No comparison at all to other hotels in the area -there are enough of them!-

Having said that the Senses restaurant was nice and the staff - really lovely. Yoga was also good - I enjoyed that each morning.

I have no understanding of the really positive reviews on this site. Go somewhere else and discover for yourselves! We went to another resort beforehand and I spent the whole week wishing I was back there!

Room Tip: Not the room I was in - in need of serious refurb!
