Wow, this place exceeded all of my expectations. The “leave as a friend” line on their website is spot on. I joked with Daniel, the owner, that they all seemed like family midway into my stay there. I had the best week at the hacienda, my room was large and beautiful as were the grounds. Food was excellent and I loved breakfast among the hummingbirds.

Definitely take advantage of the tours, birding and the tunnel were breathtaking. Service was amazing, the warmth & positivity of the owners is reflected in their staff. I did a day tour with Daniel to Yanacocha with a quick tour of Quito on our way back. He even helped me with a quick emergency orthodontist appointment in town.

I highly recommend Yanacocha - it’s such a neat hike and Daniel is great company. I can say the same for Emilio & Simona too, I loved chatting with them. Forrest and Maya (the frenchies) are adorable, well-behaved, and make this place even more like a dream home. I can’t wait to return!

We spent several nights here Jan/Feb. Buildings and grounds lovely but all menu prices for food and drinks subject to 10% service and 12% VAT in very small print!
Cheapest bottle of Chilean wine which was very ordinary cost nearly US$40 which is outrageous when similar quality in other hotels in Ecuador were $15-25 including all extras. Beware to read the details on all menus. The hacienda lies RIGHT under the flight path so aircraft noise is extremely loud all day and until very late at night. Also dogs barking much of the night disturbs sleep. We hated having to put used toilet paper in an OPEN bin next to the toilet. Yuk.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking a time and writing about your experience during your stay with us. Since we are a patrimonial and arqueological site of Quito and we are a 110 years old Hacienda located in the country side of Quito we do have certain restrictions like throwing used toilet paper down the toilet. We do this because we are not connected to the sewage water, since they end up polluting the river. We are conscious that it might be strange for you, thats why we change it everyday. We are sorry for this, but due to the fact that Quito doesnt have a water treatment plant, and our only option is to have our own septic tank and unfortunately its not able to deal with used toilet paper we ask for our guests help to do not throw the used toilet paper down the toilet.

Since we are just 15 minutes away same as many Haciendas in the country side of Quito, we hear ocasionally airplanes noice. We are thankful that Quitos Airport is not so busy and we dont have so many flight as other airports in the world. Theres nothing we can do about it, its something that is out of our hands, we were affected by the relocation of the International Airport Mariscal Sucre.

We are sorry to hear that you felt that our menu had that all values are subject to 10% service fee and 12% VAT. Weve never had any problems with that, since its in the same size as the rest of the menu but in cursive so people can distinguish. We will look into it to make sure its more clearer.

We are glad to hear you and your husband enjoy our wildlife reserve, specially with all the unique birds you where able to spot.

Best regards,

Emilio Cruz

Hacienda Jimenita is a wonderful place for respite and relaxation. Whether bird-watching, trail walking or venturing into the Inca tunnel, this place is amazing. I'm a return visitor having been for both vacation and business now. It suits groups, families and couples. The host family quickly become friends. I'll be back!

Stayed here in February 2020 for a business workshop. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and accommodations. I wish I could rate our stay with ten stars. Daniel, Emilio, Simona, and all of the kitchen and housekeeping staff provided us with excellent service that included taking daily lunch and dinner orders, keeping those orders organized, addressing our daily needs, arranging for various transportation, and providing tours and excursions.

The food was excellent and gave us a taste of local Ecuadorian cuisine plus a good mix of options to accommodate the varying needs of my coworkers (vegetarian, vegan, etc.). Lodging was also excellent - beds were comfortable, there was ample area to hold the workshop, and good areas to relax and watch the birds. The amount of birds on-site is astounding.

Daniel provided us with a morning nature walk, a tour of the Inca tunnels, and a day trip to a nearby Antisana Ecological Reserve where we were able to see Andean condors and other protected bird species. Emilio was able to arrange transportation and logistics for 19 different people (plus family members/friends). Simona made sure that our day-to-day needs were arranged and taken care of. These three made our workshop the most memorable one to date.

Everything about the hacienda is lovely - the grounds, amenities, food, the staff, and especially the canine ambassadors, Fares & Maya. The property is large and beautifully landscaped with hummingbird feeders, walking paths, and amazing views. There is a pasture with llamas, and the ladies in the kitchen will give you carrots to feed them. The rooms are beautiful with comfortable beds. Our room was large and bright with lots of windows and a fireplace readied with wood if we wanted to have a fire. The whole hacienda is warm and welcoming with many places to sit and relax while reading or socializing with other guests. The owner, Daniel, is delightful to talk to and clearly takes pride in sharing his lovely home with guests.

The location is not ideal if you plan to spend a lot of time in Quito. You will be paying a decent amount for transport into Quito or anywhere W of Quito. The hacienda's proximity to the airport also means that planes pass over the property throughout the day and fairly late at night. There are also some neighbors with dogs that barked into the night. I would recommend earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
