Our family stayed at Quinta Da Alegria in a beautiful cosy apartment. The house is really lovely and very comfortable. We enjoyed the big glass window and glass door so we never lost touch with the the magic outdoors. Amazing to watch the horses happy and free. Liesje and Jao are wonderful, beautiful people with an open heart ! Midoes is a very welcoming and peaceful village, everyone you pass is so friendly. It's definitely a place to come back to, to relax and rebirth...Our kids loved the outdoors, enough place to play and be a kid.Thank you Liesje and Jao !

Liesje and João are super accomodating and will go out of their way to make your stay, a stay to never forget. I lived on the farm riding the horses at the very beginning, 10 years ago, when we had no electricity and everything was "back to basic". The farm has electricity now but has not lost the romatic feel to it. Liesjes hospitality, passion for people and her animals made Quinta d'Alegria into the excellent holiday location it is today. It is the perfect getaway to relax and forget about any sorrow or daily issue.
Head into the mountains on horseback or hike with the dogs, or just chill out enjoying the relaxing view over the valley where the horses spend their days grazing in peace. Possibilities are endless.

Liesje, never change!

I stayed with my boyfriend in the caravan for 4 nights. We took horseriding lessons from liesje, both of us had never riden before.
The whole experience was just perfect: liesje is the best teacher, the caravan is super cosy, you have your own mini swimming pool and relax area, the dogs are great.. And everything for a more than reasonable price! Definitely worth the trip!!

For those who love the country, quiet and horses, there are very few places like this.

Couldn't ask for better hosts also very friendly and available to make us feel right at home.

Would recommend going there with your kids, plenty of room for them to play or just with your better half ;)

I Will definitely be going back soon, this time in the winter.

With wife and son, I went to Quinta da Alegria with average expectations, hoping to meet a good old friend, somehow afraid of lack of A/C, but hoping to spend a few days relaxing in a wonderful region of Portugal.

But it turned out this was one of the most relaxing and wonderful weeks of holidays I've had over a long time. As I was driving away, I just couldn't stop thinking whether this will be THE place for a yearly 'retreat' to recharge batteries.

Rustic yet wonderful apartments, fully equipped for a great self-catering experience, cool enough not to miss the A/C I got used to in the Gulf, with a nice terrace to observe horses having their snack, yet close to the stunning village of Midoes within walking distance, and with wonderful walks (or cycling tracks) starting just outside your door step. Combining that with kayaking, river swimming makes it for a complete week you don't want to end. You can feel the harmony between the farm, the horses, the owners, and the nature surrounding it.

I totally recommend this place not only for those that love to do horse riding (like my son) but also those that just love watching them (like me) whilst appreciating the serenity of this amazing piece of heaven!

I will try my best to be there next year, and the following one, and the following...!

Room tip: Any, all depends on number of people you need it for and your budget. They're all unique!
