With wife and son, I went to Quinta da Alegria with average expectations, hoping to meet a good old friend, somehow afraid of lack of A/C, but hoping to spend a few days relaxing in a wonderful region of Portugal.
But it turned out this was one of the most relaxing and wonderful weeks of holidays I've had over a long time. As I was driving away, I just couldn't stop thinking whether this will be THE place for a yearly 'retreat' to recharge batteries.
Rustic yet wonderful apartments, fully equipped for a great self-catering experience, cool enough not to miss the A/C I got used to in the Gulf, with a nice terrace to observe horses having their snack, yet close to the stunning village of Midoes within walking distance, and with wonderful walks (or cycling tracks) starting just outside your door step. Combining that with kayaking, river swimming makes it for a complete week you don't want to end. You can feel the harmony between the farm, the horses, the owners, and the nature surrounding it.
I totally recommend this place not only for those that love to do horse riding (like my son) but also those that just love watching them (like me) whilst appreciating the serenity of this amazing piece of heaven!
I will try my best to be there next year, and the following one, and the following...!
