We came off a week on Paul Gauguin on solid rain with thusly affected Internet service, looking forward to both improved weather and WiFi at The Brando. Alas, the rains continued (with just enough sun to catch a photo and a dip in the private pool) and the storm had left the Island without Internet OR cell service! Yet, may I tell you something? This over-travelled jaded guest would go back in a Flash! The service, the food, the atmosphere, the villa (first place I've ever stayed where the bathroom was better than mine!)...even the involuntary tech-withdrawal, all was perfection! Did I mention the Food?

Room Tip: All 1 bedroom units are identical, all extremely private, w/bikes or Golf Cart service on demand. There are 2 and 3 B units too

Dear Td Bab,

What an amazing review! Thank you very much for having shared it with us.

Could you believe it? We are just coming out of another tropical storm!
But this time our WIFI was ok...lol!
We are so happy to learn that, despite the heavy rain and technical problems, you have loved your stay and experience with us.
Of course we would be delighted to welcome you back during the dry season and make you discover our Paradise with sun, WIFI ... and all our daily activities.

We are looking forward to welcoming you very soon on Tetiaroa. Best regards.

As you will see from the photos the Villas are magnificent. The outdoor bathtub, the private infinite pool and gazebo perfect for breakfast or a cocktail are an added bonus. Though only 35 Villas a staff of 200 is there to take care of the guests' every need and desire on this 44 acre island. . The rates include food, drinks, excursions and a 50 minute massage of your choice every day. The food is the best you'll ever taste. The water is crystal clear, so much so that you can see the fish swimming from your helicopter or small plane before you land. You can enjoy the beach, take a boat ride, snorkel - every water sport is available. If you want to stay in Paradise book "The Brando"..

Room Tip: No Villa is better than another... all perfect

We stayed at the Brando over the Christmas/New Year holiday this year with group of 12 - little kids, adults, teenagers and seniors. Two years ago we stayed at the Four Seasons Bora Bora which was a different experience. The overall price works out about the same - the Brando is all inclusive which is a huge bonus. This means spa treatments, excursions, and 24 hour room service. The food and service at the Brando far surpasses the Four Seasons.

It's quite remarkable that the Brando can deliver the level of quality which they do consistently. Villas are spectacular and the one bedroom villas have a study which can sleep two children easily.

Lagoon school for the kids is great and educational. Kids can ride their bikes around the island and then go to Bob's Bar and get milkshakes (this was the highlight for them). They have complete independence at the Brando which kids rarely experience nowadays.

My teenagers were a little bored...not much action happening and it's pretty quiet. However for adults and little kids it's a great place. I would suggest if you're going with kids to go in peak season so that there's a chance of other kids.

I have to admit the excursions and snorkeling are much more fun in Bora Bora (which is the Disneyland of Tahiti I found out). Swimming with sharks and rays, jet skiing - none of which you can do at The Brando because it's an eco resort.

If you have a mix of ages in your group I would recommend a few days in Bora Bora and then a longer stay at The Brando. It all depends what you're looking for in a vacation.

As a luxury resort, The Brando is exceptional in every way, and we will be back in the future.

Just a note, we booked through Custom Tahiti Travel which are exceptional at what they do. They arranged flights, transfers, expedited customs etc. Richard Bondurant is extremely professional and I highly recommend using him.

Room Tip: All villas are spectacular

By all accounts Paul Gaugin the artist, was a pretty dissolute character with rather a louche lifestyle and a taste for what passed as avant-garde in the mid/late 1800's, but clearly he, like The Bounty mutineers who sought refuge here, and much later film star Marlon Brando, knew a thing or two about the good life in French Polynesia.
This resort has it all and after 2 weeks total enjoyment and high end relaxation, its just not possible for me to be critical. The facilities are unique, the management and staff are wonderful and if you want to live the reality of Gaugin's view that Polynesia belonged to 'the realm of dreams'..come!
I'm almost tempted not to tell anyone that it's here....just in case the world shows up and spoils it all....but I think we can rely on the good sense and sophistication of the French management, to keep it in the very high end of world class resorts, where everything is just as you would expect it...perfect!

Dear Wilson

Thank you for choosing The Brando for your holidays, we were more than happy to welcome you.

What a fabulous review to read that lights up the heart and makes us proud of the service we were able to offer you. We thank you very much for your appreciative words.

We would have been so honored to welcome Paul Gauguin (hahaha!), but not as much as we are proud to having made you live this experience with us.

Looking forward to welcoming you back on tetiaroa. Best regards.MP

The Brando delivered as a bucket list trip. It is wonderful private and serene set on a 3 mile lagoon. The helicopter ride over from Papeete is exhilarating and allows you to leave the world behind. The service and food are out of this world, equal to the best in PARIS and ranging from vegan to foie gras and the best croissants I've ever tasted.
Our one room villa was gorgeous and well laid out. Spacious and elegant with an outdoor bath, a perfect temperature plunge pool, mere steps from the beach. The only negative is that the sand is a bit rough and the lagoon is only 1.5ft deep in many places so paddle boarding and kayaking trump swimming. The snorkeling is excellent if you walk up to the other bay. We saw loads of brilliantly colored fish we had never seen before.
Back to the food....because it was that good. Every meal was an occasion without ever being stuffy. Green juice accompanied fresh mango and papaya and the divine croissants. The service is so warm and caring. They remember everything you like and so the visit gets more personalized with each day.
The spa is an escape on the inner lagoon with water lilies. Superb massages and treatments followed by tasty tea in a meditation space.
Bottom line....as long as you know about the shallow water everything else is perfect. It is a hefty price but you will experience many moments of utter solitude and serenity on the island and in the water.
