Because the catch is landed about 50 metres away! You won't get fresher lobster or sea bass, or anything else on offer seawise. And they do say that all their ingredients are locally sourced. There are steaks, burgers, pies etc.
We visited when they were madly busy on the last day of the art festival. They were also calm and as quick as possible.
Friendly, unpretentious place with good beers, a sensibly-priced range of food, and that essential freshness from being on the dock side.
Recommended.

This was a friendly wee tavern, dog friendly and a nice menu. The staff were very chatty, helpful and did everything they could to enable us to enjoy our time there.

Knowing the Arts Festival is very busy, we pre-booked a table. We were shown to a shared table, which was OK, but the people beside us who hadn't booked got a table on there own which we felt was a little unfair. All three of us ordered the same starter called 4 in one seafood, so basically some vegetables with prawns, salmon and crayfish tails plus one helping of fries, and one helping deep fried onion rings. After a bit of a wait, but acceptable in a very busy restaurant, the waitress came with one starter and the fries and onion rings on the same plate. We reiterated that we had wanted THREE starters, and things went down from there. She got shouted at by the chef for making a mistake on the order and was told to go and apologise to us making it clear it was her mistake. She was almost in tears. We shared the one portion and waited...and waited...and waited for the other two starters which never came. In all we were patient for One hour fifteen minutes! All they had to do was make up two more starters, which surely in a well managed restaurant would be already prepped?! We refused to pay and the manger said we didn't understand how long it took to put that starter together. What?? The waitress was lovely, but there was no sharing of fault by management and chef. The food was delicious, but the experience was a dreadful waste of time when time was precious to see the exhibits. It was a special day out for us, so a real disappointment. The staffing levels, and the management front of house and in the kitchen were not adequate for the demand of the numbers they were attempting to serve.

Having bern here in March for lunch we decided to go back for breakfast.
The welcome we received both times was warm and friendly, we have a dog and she was made to feel especially welcome with a bowl of water, biscuits and the staff stopping to pet her on the way by. They even do dog beer, she didn't sample it on this visit but will be sure to on her next.
The food here is fantastic, we both had the
full Scottish and it really set us up for the day, great value for money. We ordered tea to accompany our breakfast and yet again they didn't disappoint, we got a decent size tea pot (I love my tea) that allowed us both to have 3 delicious cups each.
Would highly recommend a visit to this fantastic, warm friendly place for drinks but especially their food.

Thank Tracey G
