A wonderful taste of Quebec countryside and charm!

Review of Le Rustique
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 22, 2018
Staying at Le Rustique was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Quebec! Our main objective was to spend time in QCity, and we did, but then with no real plan, we were drawn to driving east along the St. Lawrence. The drive was beautiful, the towns along the way so idyllic and fun to explore; the hiking and views were spectacular, and so were the sites we took in along the way, this includes an old mill, and just east of QCity, a stop to explore the Basilica of Sainte Anne Beaupre. Our room there was adorable, cozy and had a beautiful view out the "old framed" window (I'll come back and post a picture of that shot) - the view was over an old red-roofed house, and the great St. Lawrence. It was beautiful. Diane was great and made our stay there feel as if we were visiting and lodging with good friends! She and a friend of hers spent a long time chatting with us on our arrival day; we thoroughly enjoyed their company. That evening we had dinner there - that was also another highlight! I'm sorry we weren't able to make a dinner after that night - that wasn't expected, but our travels took us farther each day than we intended and we never got back in time. Next time. Thank you, Diane...maybe I'll throw up a picture of us so you can figure out who this is. It's been three years.

My wife and I have been staying at Le Rustique for years. Everything is subdued, charming, and elegant, from the porch overlooking the St-Laurent to the claw-foot bathtubs to the ballads on the stereo downstairs. The restaurant has always been excellent, with delightful local cuisine. I can honestly say we've never had a bad meal there.

Diane LaPointe runs this gem of an inn, speaks English, and welcomes her guests like her own family.

Onsite parking, basic Wifi, sit-down breakfast made to order. (Well-behaved) Children welcome.

I am a resident of Saint-Irénée and as a restaurant customer the food is very good for a very reasonable price. Maybe the best in the Charlevoix region

I write this review at my own peril, since it will probably mean I will have a tough time rebooking if more people are referred here. This is a wonderful little hotel and a fantastic setting. The view of the St Lawrence while you are sipping on your morning coffee is tremendous. On a recent four night visit here, we dined at the hotel each night, trying something different as a main course. All were wonderful. I would definitely recommend starting with the assiette de tomate with the basil sorbet. Superb! Domaine Forget is just a mile away, and book your tickets through Diane since she will get you a much better price than if you go to the box office.

The rooms are fine and, an excellent value. Diane is a wonderful outgoing person, who was a joy to be with. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Since the hotel is already fairly booked throughout the summer, take advantage of September or October, when you’ll see fewer tourists and have an easier time getting a room.

Baie St Paul is about 25 minutes drive away, there is a great brew pub there. Its about an hour to Hautes Gorges Parc, great place to hike or bike and, since cars are restricted, very quiet too. Saguenay is also about an hour away, with great hiking and mountain biking. There’s a nice art gallery, espresso stand, bar in the little village of Saguenay.
