Spent three nights at this B and B.We had a ground floor room overlooking the sea. It was attractively furnished in contemporary style with plenty of hanging and drawer space. The bathroom was modern but rather dark. All the linen was monogrammed which looked very "classy" but the towels were rather thin and not very absorbent.Certainly couldn't be described as fluffy!
The breakfast was very good although the only cooked food was hard boiled eggs. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there is free WiFi in the rather grand sitting room.To get into the building via the main door there is quite a steep flight of steps and even more steps to reach the rooms on the higher floors.
I would say that the main drawback is the relative isolation which means that the only place to eat within walking distance is a snack bar. We were told that they did meals but when we went there, they could only provide a sort of burger and chips because it was the chef's day off! People who went later than we did fared better, because someone decided to ask the chef to come in as there was clearly a demand for meals!

Very well run refurnished old house in a small village, providing an excellent quiet spot for a superb stop in your everyday rush. It is a pleasant house to stay and discover everything that central azorean triangle islands (Faial, S. Jorge, Pico) has to offer. If you don't have your own car, the owners are always very helpful to come and fetch you at the Airport, which is at a direct flight distance (two hours) from Lisbon. Excellent value, with superb views across the sea to São Jorge island. Quality of breakfast is excellent and may include any special request. If you prefer to stay in a separate house, with the same breakfast and house facilities as in the main building, you may rent a two-room house with the same view at a walking distance from the main building, with the same cleanliness. This was our first choice in Pico island.

I went to Pico Island on a walking holiday, to climb Pico Volcano, the highest mountain in all of Portugal, (which we did on the only clear day in the week, to enjoy stupendous views of 360 degree Atlantic Ocean). Adding considerably to the enjoyment of visiting such a remote place, on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, was our three night stay in the Casa do Comendador. This beautifully restored old manor house has a commanding view of the strait and Sao Jorge island, from high above the water. The B&B rooms involve a lot of steps for the higher ones, or to get to the beautiful living room and breakfast area on the main floor. My room, on the bottom floor right on the quiet street, was rather small and sparse, but the view was great. There was no writing table, but there was an easy chair and old fashioned dresser and night tables. The built-in storage was too small for my suitcase. The dark hardwood floor on the stairs is lovely. One poor design is the nook in the tub wall, which causes water to pool, and no doubt will lead to water damage over time. The monogrammed sheets and towels were elegant. The quiet location was enhanced by bird song and the views. This location is rather far from any village or restaurant, but our group was chauffeured around by mini-bus so this was no problem. The restaurant fare in the outer islands is pretty basic compared with larger or more touristic sites in Portugal, and I found the fish tough, salty and full of bones. This is, of course, the price of admission to a wonderful adventure. The airports on Pico and Faial islands are positively tiny, and a joy to use. I was trying to get on an earlier flight, and walked into the check-in area after watching a plane take off from the roof (like 50 years ago!) to be instantly called over to the desk to be given the change.

This is a charming B&B. It is in a remote spot, in a very small village with only a small snack bar in walking distance, but other small towns and restaurants nearby. Rooms are well decorated, very clean and comfortable. Quality of the breakfast was very good and the owners were always very helpful in trying to accommodate any special requests. Lovely lounge. There is also a small seating area outside. Lovely views across the sea to Sao Jorge island. It is in a remote spot so not for everyone but quaint, clean friendly and good value

Room Tip: Rooms at the front give you sea views. Although rooms are on the ground are on the road, don't let that put you off as there is little or no traffic that uses the road so you don't get disturbed.
