“Just Wonderful”
Reviewed 28 February 2012

My husband and I stayed here six years ago and we loved it. This month we visited for a second time with our four year old daughter. What an awesome vacation! The Copamarina is super kid-friendly. There are two kiddie pools -- one with a fountain -- and two larger pools. The water temperature in all the pools was just perfect. There are two hot tubs, also perfect temperature. The pools and grounds are impeccably maintained. The rooms are not super luxurious but are perfectly adequate and very clean. You aren't going to want to spend much time in your room here! Las Palmas Cafe, the outdoor cafe where we had breakfast three times and dinner three times, serves good, reasonably-priced food. We particularly enjoyed the whole fried snapper (the pizza, which we ordered the following evening, wasn't the best -- the crust was tortilla-like and not our favorite). One of our favorite things was that there is a small playground right next to the tables at Las Palmas so our daughter could play while we were waiting for our food, scarf down her food, then skip off for more sliding and climbing fun while my husband and I relaxed, chatted and enjoyed a second delicious cup of cafe con leche! The beach is a little grassy and therefore not really suitable for swimming, though there is a better public beach just a few minutes walk away. Taking the ferry to Gilligan's Island was something we enjoyed a lot on our first visit and it was just as beautiful as we remembered, with good snorkeling. We plan to return very soon!!

We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this nice resort after the hussle of San Juan. We booked a dive with Aqua Adventure through Rosa at the shop. They did an awesome job! Good dive equipment on a safe boat with Franklin and Anthony pointing out the wildlife below. Snorkeling the mangroves on Isla Gilligan is worth the trip either on the hotel ferry or rented kayaks. We only ate on the property once. Although very tasty, it was slow coming and expensive.

We've come once again to this resort and we will definitely be coming back! It's a peaceful and tranquil resort that's great for seniors and is also child-friendly (very different from San Juan). Overall, we had another wonderful experience. Just a few items to take note of: it's difficult to swim at the beach because there is still some seaweed that should be removed at the shore; there were lots of mosquitoes this year; and the breakfast service at Las Palmas was quite slow. We prefer the buffet; unfortunately, they only had that when it was busier. Quicker waiting service would be much appreciated. But as usual, all the resort staff was very friendly and welcoming.

Room Tip: Beautiful view on second floor

We have friends in PR, so have travelled extensively in the country. This resort is on a quiet seaside road, about 2 1/2 hours from San Juan. The resort is not large, but is well laid out and has all of the amenities that a large resort has. We didn't select the all inclusive option, but did eat at the restaurants on site, and were blown away at the quality of the food.

The service was fair - if you have travelled in PR, you'll be familiar with this. The rooms were great. They were large, and had either a balcony or a terrace. Each room had a fridge and a huge shower! One of the best parts was the fact that they had Aveda bath and hair products!

The pools and hot tubs are a great way to stay cool. The beach is not that great, but if you have a car, take a drive and explore local beaches - you won't be disappointed.

Our favourite part of Copamarina was it's direct access to Gilligan's Island!!! For $7US/person, Copamarina had a private shuttle (pontoon boat) to take you to Gilligan's Island. Gilligan's is a nature reserve in the middle of the bay. It has shallow warm water, and you swim through the mangrove to the open water. It is a fantastic experience, and you cannot travel to Guanica without going. We loved it so much, we went twice on the same week! Be prepared to take absolutely everything you'll need for the day. From food, to beverages, to chairs/towels etc. There are picnic shelter and grills - if it's a PR holiday, it will be packed, so book as soon as main reception opens. You can only book travel for the same day.

Enjoy your stay!

Located near Guanica, in the dry forest. Right next door is what may be the most beautiful, well-maintained public beach on the entire island. No rooms facing the parking lot here! All face the beach side of the property with small patios. We stayed for one night while exploring the island. We checked in, enjoyed a gorgeous sunset at the bar, then hit the jacuzzi, followed by a lovely dinner with absolutely fantastic service at the casual outdoor dining room. Our room was quiet, comfortable, and immaculate. The property is beautifully maintained including the pools. The next morning we moved on. There were not many people staying at the property when we were there midweek. There is hiking available in the dry forest and there is a shuttle to Gilligan's island. Multiple pools. There is also a spa. The sea is calm in this location and the water pretty shallow a ways out. As mentioned elsewhere the site is somewhat remote.

We were thrilled to stay here our second time in three years. Both times were filled with hospitality, serenity, warmth, relaxation, and an atmosphere that we so loved. Outstanding personnel attentive to our every needs; delicious food in an idyllic setting; a groomed beach that beckoned us to relax, and a room that was spacious, and inviting, providing us with a spectacular view and sound of the Caribbean. We count the days until we can return yet again. The Copamarina is truly a slice of paradise!

This property is located near the tiny town of Guanica. It consists of several buildings along the ocean, pools, a hot tub, small playground, game room with air hockey, and two restaurants. It is a beautiful location with picture post card views of the ocean and surrounding hills. The grounds are well maintained with attractive landscaping. The hotel was in good condition – it looked like everything had just been re-painted.

The beach is a narrow strip of pale sand with lots of beach chairs and cabanas that are well-maintained by the hotel. The ocean here is tame with few waves. There are some patches of sea grass but easily avoided by either swimming around them, swimming off the hotel’s pier, or strolling down to the adjacent beach park. There were a few small fish, but no spectacular snorkeling right off the beach. The hotel does have kayaks and small catamarans, but we did not try these. They rent snorkels for $15/hour ($25 for the day). There is also a company that will take you snorkeling ($69) or snuba ($99) diving from a boat that leaves from the hotel pier. Our snorkeling trip was cancelled due to poor weather (must have been an issue with the currents as the weather was perfect). There is also a boat to Gilligan’s Island that leaves every 30 minutes from the hotel pier from 10 am to 4:40 pm ($7).

The pools are beautiful and clean. There are two hot tubs, two pools, and two shallow kiddie pools. The restaurant on site will serve drinks at the pool for the expected high resort price of about $8 each.

The staff is helpful, polite and speaks English well. WiFi was free throughout the property – including the beach which was VERY nice.

Our room was in the main building, ground floor facing the ocean. It had a very nice back porch and we enjoyed sitting out, drinking rum, watching the sunset, and hearing the ocean. The room was large and clean with the expected amenities.

There is a spa on site that we did not visit. The fitness room was a small room with two treadmills, some weights, stationary bikes, and a stair stepper. The equipment was in good shape and the fitness room was open 24 hours.

The only downside to this location was that it is somewhat remote (that may be an upside to some!). There were few things to do in the immediate area. Guanica is tiny with no good restaurants. However, for a 2-3 day vacation, there was plenty to do such as the Dry Forest (ask for a brochure and map at the front desk) and Gilligan’s island. The restaurant on site was good but if you want to go out, you will drive for at least 25 minutes to find a decent place to eat.

They add a 10% resort fee to your bill which I found distasteful. It’s not optional so why not just include it in the room charge up front? However, this is a standard practice in PR and we have learned to expect it.

Room Tip: Ocean view
