We spent a couple of days there with friends. The rooms where we were, they are not refurbished so they are simple, with enough space. However the bathroom needs improvement specially because there are no hangers for the towels or clothes. At least the rooms are clean!! Positive point!
Breakfast is good, always fresh although they need to change the pão de queijo's recipe. It is not the best at all.
Location is good, close to many historical churches and places to visit.
The staff is very kind, specially the ones that were at night during Carnaval.

Room Tip: Ask the rooms that are refurbished.

I had visited the historic cities of Minas Gerais before, but never made it to Sao Joao del Rei. We came in by bus from Rio, and were well received at Hotel Lenheiros. Staff are not English speakers, but friendly - I happen to speak Portuguese so not a problem. Customer service throughout the stay was excellent.

Our room was surprisingly spacious, clean and traditional in style. Bathroom felt basic, but the shower functioned well enough and we were more than comfortable.

As we arrived fairly late and very tired, we opted to eat in the hotel. The in-house pizzeria was not in action that evening, there being a standard Brazilian buffet instead. Good, though not outstanding. Breakfast was marginally better.

All in all, a good, basic, unpretentious hotel. Does what it says on the tin. What wins is the location - if you are looking to visit the historic churches of the centre, or the railway museum, you won't do much better. You will be a short taxi ride from the rodoviaria, though.

Dont expect much. The hotel is basic. Rooms are simple but the hotel is clean, quiet and in a central location. The staff don't speak English but are friendly and try to assist. There is breakfast but you're better off going to a local place.

Room Tip: o que eu fiquei era de lado, acho que nos de frente tem uma vista melhor da cidade.
