This small, family run, hotel is located within the walls of the small town of Monte San Savino about 15 miles southwest of Arezzo. The room was decorated sympathetically and was clean. The room had three proper full sized beds and was set up to accommodate three persons which was good. The room size was slightly above European average. The air-conditioning worked well as did the Wifi.

The bathroom was spacious with a large bathtub and shower which was nice. I liked the fact that natural ventilation was available. The bathroom was nicely decorated with mosaic tile. The towels had a good level of fluffiness.

Breakfast was included in the room price and comprises of fresh fruit, orange juice from concentrate, cakes, mixed pastries, yogurt, toast with bread and hot drinks made by a barista. The breakfast was reasonably good but a boiled egg, which is not difficult to make, would improve it.

No city tax is payable which is good.

One criticism was that the receptionist left our passports unattended on the counter for a considerable amount of time. Given the value of these documents they should be attended or put in a secure place. The staff were friendly and assisted in trying to fix the Sky box.

The assistant at the train station ticket office was very helpful in booking tickets for the Bacci Chapel and validating the train tickets for us even though she spoke no English.

The Logge Dei Mercanti is a lovely small hotel located in the main street of Monte San Savino. I have stayed here several times and have had a good bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast is more abundant than the usual Italian coffee and a pastry! For other meals, the village has many good restaurants. If you plan to explore Southern Tuscany this would be a wonderful base, and much cheaper than many other places. Monte San Savino is just off the main A1 motorway (exit Monte San Savino), is 2 hours 15 minutes from Rome and 1 hour from Florence. There is also a train station. Monte San Savino is a beautiful walled village, very quiet. It is not crowded like nearby Cortona, Montepulciano, Montalcino etc (all within easy reach).

When booking this hotel, I find it easier to phone them and get a better rate than anything available on the internet. When booking, alert them if you are coming by car so they can give you parking directions (essential).

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter. At least one room has a terrace

The hotel is located in an old beautiful building with real frescoes on the walls. The rooms are very elegantly furnished. The floors are all in natural material - no artificial mixture which gives the hotel a very sofisticated feeling. Members from the Family who manages the hotel is there to take care of the guests. Beside the owner Valentina there is also wonderful Roberta, who also makes everything for the guests. Some of the rooms have a wonderful view over the Tuscan hills and others are facing the old city, which is also an interesting view. The breakfast room is located in the vaulted basement with very old brick and terracotta constructions. The breakfast is a typical Italian breakfast but the hotel also listens to your special wishes like to have salami, goat cheese and other Tuscan specialities. The little town of Monte San Savino is located in the crossroad of Autostrada del Sole and the Superstrada, which means, that the geographical location is very convenient.

I like the Logge dei Mercanti. I have been there several times on business with colleagues or on my own and I return with pleasure for personal short trips. If you sleep in one of the rooms on the first or second floor overlooking the backside, you wake up in the morning surrounded by birds' music, open the window and find yourself in front of the beautiful hanging garden attached to the town hall.
I think it makes a lot of sense when you visit this area living a few days in the very centre of an old town and let your self being wrapped up by the flavor of history and the Logge is one of the best places where to do it.
Yet this is a simple place: you can not expect luxury, but you will find a warm and helpful staff ready to advise you on what to see and do. I agree on the fact that the breakfast, served in the cosy and nice cellar, could be a bit more seducing, so to say, but... perfection: does it exist?

Monte San Savino is a lovely & not too touristy village. Ideal for a base or stop-over when touring Tuscany. Hotel Logge Dei Mercanti is a charming small hotel right in the centre & close to shops & several eateries. We stayed in their room with a terrace. The decor inside is beautiful & the terrace has a marvellous view over the village. Breakfast is served in an underground cellar - very atmospheric. A word of warning if you are a light sleeper - the town clock strikes right through the night! We were fine using ear plugs but it may not suit some. All things considered, a great place to stay!
