This is our 20th year in the village & the last 18 have been at the Romanza. This will be my 10th review so you will understand I am running short of superlatives to describe our 2nd home.An hotel that strives for constant improvement, with a location & staff that in my opinion are second to none.So much so that we will be back next year for our 19th year.
The latest update is a major refurbishment of the family garden room.
The one change to staff is that Vassilly (Billy) is back who with his personality & dancing skill is a very welcome addition to a brilliant team.
As I have said earlier after 18 wonderful years at the Romanza you do run out of new things to say.All I can suggest for would be visitors, read my 10 reviews & if you like what you read go & try it for yourself

Before arrival I E-mailed to request a top floor room and had an almost immediate response. We were met at reception and taken immediately to our room, top floor as requested. We had a wonderful and friendly stay and would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Food was extremely well cooked and presented at dinner and always served with a friendly smile. The only downside is the extremely steep hill on return from the village. But hey, the scenery is worth it and there are a couple of bars to stop off in on the way back up.

Room Tip: Request a room preference before arrival, although all rooms have seaview

This is our 3rd visit to the Romanza and we absolutely love it, the staff are amazing and they were great with our one year old. Hotel is set in lovely grounds on top of a cliff, you just can't beat the views.
Just remember this place is at the top of a steep hill so not so good for the less able as there are no taxis in the village.

This year we were being joined by my husbands sister and her husband. I think that they are converts and will be returning. We had our usual fantastic welcome from everyone at the hotel, it’s like coming home every time.
We had our usual room and it has a lovely view from the bed, but this year the hotel have been forced to put Perspex round the balcony by the tour operator. Unfortunately this blocks the view from the bef! It also prevents seeing the view when sitting on the balcony, you have to stand up to see it.
The atmosphere at the hotel has not changed, the staff are all happy and always willing to help you in any way to make your holiday perfect.
We ate at the restaurant on a number of occasions and each time the food was excellent, the service by Andreas, Spiros, Billy and Thanassis was above par. Would definitely recommend it. Andreas makes the most amazing cocktails and also after dinner coffees.
We are looking forward to our week in September and have booked for next year.

The Romanza sits high on the (very steep) hill above Agios Stefanos on Crete's North West tip.
The pool and sun deck offer stunning views over the wide sandy beach and town below and is the perfect place for a sunset drink.
Our room was in an older annexe off the side of the hotel and was a typical Greek-style room with beds, bathroom with shower and fridge. Although dated, it served us fine.
Staff at the hotel are friendly and the bar was always lively with guests (many of whom return every year and are treated like old friends).
There is a steep path down to the beach and the walk into town takes 15/20 minutes. There are plenty of good tavernas in Agios Stefanos and one excellent craft beer bar - Beer O'Clock.
But be warned - the hill seems to get even steeper heading back up after a good meal and a few drinks!.
I'd recommend the hotel for those who like small, friendly, family-run places with a decent pool and excellent view.
