Whilst staying at another resort on Diani Beach we took the opportunity to dine out on some evenings to experience the cuisine on offer in the immediate area.
The setting for the restaurant is quite stunning, passing through a beautifully designed hotel. We were greeted by staff, including the duty manager, and shown to our table. The selection of dishes available was varied both for appetisers and mains, equally split between vegetarian and non- vegetarian. Dishes were well presented and the food very good, although the service was not up to the standard expected of a restaurant in keeping with the hotel. Although similar types of dishes were ordered, including salad content, the initial plates used for the salad and appetiser were not removed, and as such dirty dishes remained on the table awaiting the main course. When the main course arrived the same plates were clearly intended to be used throughout the meal - totally unacceptable. For a restaurant in such a prestigious setting the nature of the service and lack of attention spoilt what would otherwise have been a very enjoyable meal. Having been introduced to the duty manager on arrival she was not evident when we were to leave, otherwise I would have welcomed the opportunity to discuss our experience. With a little work and some additional staff training I'm sure the restaurant will be very successful, unfortunately you only have one chance to give a good first impression and on this occasion it was lacking.

Personally I found it relatively difficult to find somewhere to satisfy my craving for a curry after a few days in Diani. There do not appear to be a great many dining options offering good Indian cuisine, however this place ticked all of the boxes.
It has erroneously been labelled as a Thai restaurant on Trip Advisor but the food is very much Indian and from what I experienced, pretty good quality too.
Tucked away beyond the main buffet restaurant of the Swahili Beach Resort it was virtually empty when I visited and for some reason does not seem to be particularly well promoted. However, the menu offers a good, if not especially vast choice of dishes and the setting is modest but smart, not entirely out of keeping with the somewhat impressive hotel and grounds.
I had the chicken makhani and the sauce was excellent, although the chicken was a bit disappointing - it seemed almost like processed meat. The naan bread was freshly baked and very good and the complementary masala poppadum as an appetizer was a nice touch. Considering where it was (within a fairly high end resort) the food was reasonably priced and offered good value for money.
Overall then a great option if you fancy a curry, although I'd probably recommend going for the paneer over the chicken.

We were a group of 14 who went to the restaurant for dinner to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday.

The ambiance is really very nice. The chef came to take the order personally and suggested some off the menu dishes. Excellent sea food varieties prepared really well and tasted extremely delicious.

There is not a single complaint we had on the food and service. Par excellence in terms of food, ambiance and service. The dishes are a little pricey but well worth the money.

Huge party, maybe 17 of us, in February 16. Fabulous! The atmosphere was cheerful and the service professional. Most of the all, the curry was fabulous. Poppadoms and cold beer... life is amazing!

The Spice Route offers lovely Indian food, in a great atmosphere. Been there many times, and planning on dining there many more in the future. Recommended!
