Being in southern Crete to work on research for my son's dissertation on Minoan civilisation Villa Epavlis is ideally situated in Kamilari for all the major as well as less well known sites. The villa is situated at the top of a hill with stunning views across the plain of Mesara, to Phaistos, Agia Triadha and Kamares cave which can be enjoyed from the garden. You feel that you are independent and not overlooked, but also still within the main village so walking to the small well stocked supermarket and the tavernas when the heat goes out of the day is no problem. Kamilari is well situated for visiting the many beaches in the area
The house has 2 double bedrooms (with air conditioning) upstairs and a lounge/dining room, a kitchen and a shower/toilet downstairs. We did not cook in the house, but the kitchen appeared to have everything one would need to prepare and serve meals.
The owners provided generous amounts of towels and dressing gowns for each person which was a nice touch
Probably if my wife had been with us, she would have liked to have seen more feminine touches; and would mention that the stairs to the bedrooms are quite steep
As a base Villa Epavlis was everything we needed and to come home at the end of a day and sit in the garden relaxing and doing e.mails (wifi available) with that magnificent view was incredible
