“Superb House in an Amazing Town!”

I visited Malta and Gozo in September with my boyfriend. We spent a week in Malta and 4 days in Gozo but as soon as we reached Gozo and this amazing house we knew we had done it the wrong way round as 4 days was just not going to be long enough!

Kenneth was really friendly and helpful, from making the booking to meeting us at the house and all the communication in between. He even arranged for us to be able to have a late check out as our flight home was at 10.00pm and there wasn't an extra charge.

We hired a car and drove to the farmhouse and Kenneth's directions were excellent. Gozo is a special place and the town (Qala) which the house is located in, is in my opinion the nicest. A short walk from the house there are a few bars/restaurants, a bakery, butcher and supermarket (though the big supermarket in Victoria is best if you need more than the essentials).

The house itself is tucked away down a lane which means it is very quiet and private. The views look out onto countryside and a lovely windmill! The pool area is amazing with a really good sized pool and plenty of sun-loungers (beach towels also provided). The barbecue was a highlight for us as it was huge and we ended up cooking each night enjoying the cooler evening breeze. The fact that the house did not have air conditioning was a concern but it really wasn't necessary as there was a nice breeze and the fans provided were more than adequate. The house was clean and well maintained and felt homely (unlike some other rentals I have stayed in). It is also really spacious (much larger than the photos would suggest) and had a good supply of cutlery/dishes (cheese grater and scissors would be good though!). It almost seemed unfair that we had this huge house to ourselves and would accommodate a large family very easily.

I couldn't recommend this house highly enough. If you are wanting to stay in a beautiful village in a fabulous house on an amazing island with friendly locals then this is the place for you! We will definitely return.

“So charming, will definitely be back!”

Cannot believe we have been back a month, can't wait to go back! Kenneth and family were so accommodating, communication was excellent prior to our arrival, I had advised Kenneth of some activities which we were interested in and he had a list of all the places which he recommended we visited, the local knowledge is highly appreciated.
When we arrived in Gozo and drove to Qala it was mid day heat - it was silent, we met Kenneth in the square and he guided us to the property, down a side lane to the giant rustic door which led to the spacious open plan dining and living area. Kenneth and family were there to great us, we spoke about all of the places to see and things to do, they kindly showed us how everything worked and as we unpacked the bags the kids were already taking advantage of the pool, I followed not long after. The water was a refreshing respite from the heat of the Mediterranean sun.

The property is well thought out, very adequate for a family of four, would comfortably sleep 6 - 8 people. It was immaculately clean and as the previous reviewer wrote the pictures do not do the spaciousness of the property justice. The kitchen was fully equipped to make even the largest of meals and the dishwasher is a welcome addition! I enjoyed the six burner barbecue and have since bought a smaller version of the same brand as it was such a pleasure to cook on. Plenty of seating outside and at night time it was relaxing to sit by the pool with the outside lighting, the cooler breeze and a nice cold drink.
The bedrooms were very comfortable and the fans were good to get a slight breeze through the house whilst acclimatising over the first couple of days, I will be honest I was dubious about the property not having air conditioning but it was so airy it really didn't need it, (it did come close to 40 degrees whilst we were there).

We took our laptop so the kids could watch cartoons/movies when they needed to be in from the sun, the property also had a good wifi connection which allowed us to keep in touch with friends and family and keep up to date with T.V back home!

I would recommend the hiring of a car, we booked in advance with Ray Bezzina and collected the car at Malta airport, the journey to the ferry port was very straightforward and Gozo is well sign posted. The beach which visited nearly every day was Ramla, only 5/10 mins in a car, it is served by public transport but with two kids in tow I would advise to drive, it also gave us complete flexibility to explore the Island, we really liked the Azure window and took a guided tour by a local fisherman for €20 through the caves, money well spent as we could see the coral glowing effervescently beneath the surface of the water, this made us want to learn scuba diving! (which this island is perfect for).
On the way from Victoria (Citadella a must!) to the Azure Window there is a small crafts village which has local crafts people producing local goods such as metal work, glass, lace and leather, I would have spent more money here had we have had sufficient space in our luggage! Very good quality products at reasonable prices.

Local to the property were two small well stocked shops although I headed back towards the ferry port to a larger supermarket when we needed to get a wider range of shopping, there were also a number of restaurants and bars which were very nice to sit outside in the evenings, I would recommend Ta' Vestru very good food at reasonable prices. We were quite fortunate to be visiting during the villages local festival when they celebrate their parishes saint, to roads were all closed off for a street party which included traditional dancing as well as modern music, there was a really nice party atmosphere but so relaxed at the same time, the church was lit up and flags lined the streets.

I could go on and on, we go on a summer holiday every year and always want to go somewhere different the following year, but I really think that Gozo is something special and makes it difficult at this stage for us to want to go anywhere different for the for foreseeable, even though in the Eurozone everything was very reasonably priced which made it so much more enjoyable, the Gozitans and the Maltese are such warm people and make you feel very welcome, even when passing by traders selling their wares they are not at all pushy and a simple no thank you would not be met by a torrent of abuse as I have experienced in numerous other countries.

I hope it continues to retain it's charm, I know the government is focusing on an eco Gozo which I hope prevents the Island from turning into a crowded high rise tourist development.

If you want peace and quite, a relaxing holiday and feel rested afterwards then this is the place, we felt like we were at home the whole time and can see ourselves returning for years to come.

“Fabulous farmhouse, brilliant holiday”

Dar tal - genn is a beautiful, chic farmhouse in a peaceful location with an amazing pool. The farmhouse is spacious, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. It is located within walking distance of the village piazza where there are a selection of bars and restaurants and Qala is full of warm friendly people. Thank you Kenneth for a brilliant holiday.
