Walking along the coastline between Porto Covo and Odeceixe is one long highlight for everybody who loves the sea, the cliffs, the colourful rocks that meet the blue sky and the ocean! Peaceful towns and villages make you feel comfortable, friendly people who look after you at your accommodation or on transfers that make your route more enjoyable make your days all the more pleasant. Continue on the Rota Vicentina all the way to Cabo de Sao Vicente and you will get to know more of the country inland as well as spectacular parts of the southern coastline!

We took the 'Exploring Rio Mira' trip, dropped off at Casa Branca by our extremely friendly and helpful guide to paddle back to Vila Nova de Milfontes.
The plan was to float with the tide, which worked perfectly, except the wind came up more than expected and whipped the longer reaches of the river into significant waves, making the paddle more fun but also far more challenging!
The scenery and wildlife are stunning, and the last stretch with views of the bridge and town with the ocean waves breaking into estuary at the end a fitting finale.
Even in calmer conditions it is a significant stretch, so don't take it on lightly, he does offer a shorter out-and-back option too, but it was well worth the effort for me and my 73-year-young Mum!

We spent a couple of hours kayaking on the Mira in Milfontes. Two double kayaks, adults in one, teenagers in other. It was great fun and very easy for complete novices to enjoy. The meeting point was on a river beach opposite the town. Carlos was there ahead of time to meet us. He explained clearly what to do and where to go. The equipment was all in good order and the life jackets were clean, with a good selection of sizes. The river is very beautiful and the trip was timed with the tide so it wasn't difficult to make progress. All in all great fun and good value.
