Truly one of the west coasts hidden gems . A true beach front palapa restaurant. But do not let the palapa fool you this is no ordinary mexican fare. Yes a corona with lime is always at the bar but take your time to sit for a meal. From curried delights to asian cuisine to amazing chicken satay every dish a delight . Greg 150797 if you rate your restaurants on if they allow potato chips from the convenience store from across the street , maybe you need to stop reviewing restaurants!

My two friends and I stopped for some margaritas one afternoon and asked the server if we could order some snacks, such as chips or whatever. We had dinner planned and just needed a little something to nibble on while enjoying our drinks.
Our polite waiter apologized and explained that they didn't have such snacks available, only larger menu items. I decided to walk to the nearby store and purchase some chips, which I brought back to our beach location.
Most places in Mexico would allow this, especially given that we were all ordering 5-dollar margaritas.
Well it turns out Yolanda forbids outside food (which I understand and respect). Unfortunately, instead of politely explaining this policy to us she chose to berate us and suggested "they wouldn't allow that in your country".
She was right, however we were in Mexico, not "our country" and the practice of consuming snacks purchased from third party vendors is not uncommon. We weren't aware of her policy and would have gladly abided by it if she had politely explained it to us. Instead, she berated us.
We promptly downed our drinks, thanked and tipped our embarrassed waiter, assuring him he had done nothing wrong.
Yolanda's rude behaviour was uncalled for and as a result we would never return.
As we left I couldn't help but notice that we were really the only business she had, other than a couple of people reading their novels while sipping bottled water.
We have since made a habit of spending our money at the many "Mexican owned" restaurants in La Manzanilla, which is what we should have done from the start.
"Catos" restaurant is a short stroll away and is a wonderful locally owned business where the food is delicious and the owners are happy to see you.
Do yourself a favour and skip miserable "Yolandas"

Jolanda's, a little restaurant under a palapa on the beach in the tiny town of La Manzanilla, Jalisco, Mexico has got to be puro Mexicano right? Well things are not always as they seem. The place is owned by Jolanda and Leon, two Mexican enough names, but these two happen to be from Holland. They arrived here on their motorcycles towards the end of a world tour ten years ago and never left. Jolanda has brough some European as well as Dutch Indonesian and other Asian flavors to the table here. She is a jovial woman and a great story teller. She serves up the best American style breakfast I have had during four months traveling to many parts of Mexico. The menu is filled with many delicious surprises and an extremely good cup of strong coffee... Dutch style, There is a good internet connection and the staff are extremely cordial. It is a great place to while away many hours sitting on the shores of the Bahia Tenacatita. La Manzanilla is a gem in its own right. Jolanda's is a great place to experience.

When we head to the beach, we go to Jolandas. There are lounges on the beach and you can hang for hours, just ordering drinks...We love their french fries and guacamole as the day goes on and we get hungry. Great spot for sunsets! Can't beat being right on the water's edge.
Have eaten here for dinner a few times. You can find rice and vegies with chicken or shrimp. Some simple tasty curries and a great chicken satay. Varied menu. This food is good, not great, but after all, this is not a 4 star restaurant but a comfortable beach hangout. They also have a bar that is opened until 1 AM, I think that is most nights. They bring in lots of music and have a dance floor. Very enjoyable spot.

I have been here almost every day since Christmas. This place is highly recommanded. Jolanda and Leon, the owners, are always cheerful and helpful. The place is very clean, and the cooking of Jolanda is delicious. She has the best price in town if you want to rent kayaks. She also has home-made cooked breads (the one with 7 grains is wonderful). For a small fee (50 pesos for a week), you can plug your laptop and use their Wi-Fi. And all the staff is very smiling, helpful and polite: Javier, Luis, Susannah, Angel... Again, highly recommanded!
