Visiting Stonehaven - never been before and decided on this Fish & Chip restaurant.
We went there late afternoon. Both had Cod chips and mushy peas - absolutely delicious. The fish and batter were just right and a good portion. The mushy peas tasted as if they had been done properly from scratch - not just out of a tin.
The young girl serving us was very good and we didn't have to wait long for our food (although we were the only ones in there at the time) - we liked the fact that they cook food to order which they tell you in the menu so you may have a wait. Pot of tea each - lovely cuppa! If we ever go to Stonehaven again we will definitely go to this place.

The chippy in the Square at Stonehaven used to be called "Sandy's" and was always one of our favoured 'Sit-Doon' stops between Abeedeen and Kirriemuir... It's now designated "The Square" Restaurant, upstairs from the chip shop, and has suffered a change of staff, or maybe, we thought, ownership. There were two tables to be serviced (including ours) and the one guy in control was obviously a stranger to his occupation. Attention to our table (and to the other one) was abysmally slow and careless.
The job requires little more than fetching orders from the cooks below by dumb waiter and laying same on the tables. I cannot imagine what this chap would've done if the place became as busy as we've seen it become many many times in the past.
On second thoughts, maybe its lack of patrons that teatime stems from the lack of acumen in the management.
The food was alright .. but the handy upstairs restaurant needs dedicated waitresses ...as they had before.

Long wait for food whether its busy or quiet. Staff aren't that friendly and their food is very pricey for what it is.

Very tasty food, but slightly overpriced (£4 for a jumbo sausage), or maybe the I live in is cheap.
Didn't quite get what I asked for (did ask for peas but never got any), maybe due to my Welsh accent lol.
