We visited White swan cottages along with some of our family friends for the Victoria Day long weekend. It took us around 2 hours to reach the place from home and the drive was very smooth. We arrived past 9pm but were greeted by the family who owns the cottages and were briefed on our stay for the weekend. They are a small family property located on the north shores of Sturgeon Lake. ron, Carrie and Abby are really welcoming and extremely wonderful people.
All of us were mesmerized by the place – we were a total of 4 adults and 2 children and were given Cottage # 2 which was a nice cozy 3 bedroom cottage and was extremely neat and clean. Two rooms had double size beds and the other room had 2 single beds with comforters and pillows (we had to carry our own linen sheets). The living area had a pull out couch with cable TV and a DVD player. The cottage has a fully equipped eat-in kitchen with microwave, stove, fridge, coffee maker, dishes, plastic ware, cutlery, pots, pans, etc . It also had a bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet with hot and cold water all day long. Each cottage had a picnic table in the front porch with a gas BBQ as well which is provided by the owners.
Since we were all tired that night we went straight to bed, however the next morning we were all eager to see what the place had in store for us. We had a nice little play area for the kids just in front of our cottage and the kids enjoyed their time out there. They had a gaming room which had all sorts of games from ping pong, foosball, board games, badminton, volleyball, chess etc etc. Every morning, we saw the owners Rob and Carrie wiping away dew and cobwebs from the lawn furniture. Next to the gaming room is a small sandy beach with wading area for kids to play around. They also offer free use of their well-maintained canoes, kayaks and paddle boats for use and we really had fun using them all. They also provide wood for night campfire if required, but one has to make sure that safety is being administered while lighting the fire and putting it off. They also have a laundry area which guests can use for a small fee.
The lake isn’t suited for swimming since it’s shallow, however that did not stop us from having a wonderful time jumping from the deck into the lake, kayaking, paddle boating and even canoeing. We truly enjoyed our totally relaxed stay at the cottage and for sure we will definitely be going back. This is definitely home away from home and I highly recommend this place.
