Wonderful remote hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 6, 2022
We stayed at the Flodigarry Hotel for a night in May. It is in a stunning location, not far from the Quiraing Hills and overlooking the sea. The grounds as you arrive are beautiful and the entrance , restaurant and bar rooms have been restored really nicely. It is cosy but grand with a lot of attention to detail.
We had a room overlooking the sea which was really comfortable and spacious with a nice bathroom.
The dinner was fantastic and a real treat. We had drinks and a canape in the bar before having a delicious 3 course dinner in the restaurant. The food was really high end with great local produce.
The staff were all very attentive and the owners were available and involved in all the proceedings making it a very personal service.
It is not cheap but we really felt it was worth the price for a special experience on Skye.
The breakfast was also very good and set us up so well for the day we didn't need lunch.
They are also very dog friendly and our border terrier Arthur was allowed to sleep under our table in one of the restaurant rooms but they were mindful of people that don't want dogs in the restaurant so had two rooms which was absolutely fair enough.
We have highly recommended this hotel to any friends who are visiting Skye as a must.

Extraordinary!! The hotel is located in an amazing spot with superb views over the ocean. We stayed in the cottage rooms which are also very nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
It’s really a unique and extraordinary experience.
We highly recommend it!!

I can not overstate that every step of our stay, the staff went WAY out of their way to make sure we had the best time possible- From Sarah the sweet server, to Dan the inexhaustibly knowledgeable food and beverage manager, to the hotel owner Bette (sorry if my spelling is wrong!) who treated us like family, and offered my wife and I a drink after hours (and this was BEFORE I fumbled through playing some potentially atrocious accordion for them in the bar). Paul was hilarious behind the bar. The only thing at the hotel that could rival the incredibly warm and friendly staff was the DELICIOUS food and drink- Coming from NYC where we enjoy quite a bit of fine dining, I can assuredly say I’ve never had a steak like the one I had for dinner (and my wife is from Texas!) 2 nights was not enough to see everything the Isle of Skye has to offer, and we plan on coming back to spend a week as soon as we can. Thank you so much to the Flodigarry Hotel staff for everything! -Pete and Chaney

This is a generous review because : the position is spectacular, the staff great ( especially the breakfast waitress) , the rooms very clean and comfortable so can you imagine how bad the food is !!
This probably is of no reflection on the chef who has to produce what they are told to but the breakfast was awful. The least generous breakfast I have ever had and I don’t mean the quantity. The cheapest of all ingredients, 1/2 a slice of the cheapest haggis, awful eggs, cheap bread etc etc the worst thing was the jams / marmalade. It’s difficult to imagine anything that awful to put on your toast. And the evening meal was “fine”- if it had been a third of the price. Mushroom stroganoff ( very basic) was£26. This is not a misprint. Something very wrong is going on with the ingredients the chef is given and the owners who are getting away with it.
I would advise you to stay if you can get a deal without breakfast.

Years since our first visit but this is now a really professional place. Nice decor, knowledgeable staff who are passionate about local food. The seafood buffet was outstanding. This is a lovely place to visit.

We ate dinner, and were absolutely delighted , fine dining in a casual friendly ambiance .
Delicious seafood and local meats , it's not cheap, but if you love fine quality local food, this is fantastic.
The hotel building is traditional, with a contemporary decor, everything is good quality.
Fantastic young girl from Thurso serving , a friendly Dutch guy ...both were wonderful
