We stayed at Six Senses Zighy Bay for 7 nights as the final stop on our honeymoon in Oman. It was simply amazing, we loved everything about it.
Zighy Bay is the most beautiful location with a mountain on one side and sea on the other. The drive into the resort is mightily impressive and handled very well by the hotel’s suite of extra large American 4WD cars.
We arrived to be met by Feroz, our GEM (Guest Experience Maker), who quickly checked us in and then gave us a tour of the resort on a golf buggy. He handily pointed out the pools, restaurants and other amenities before dropping us off at our pool villa.
The villa was absolutely incredible! It was huge and very well equipped. A large garden with private pool, sun loungers, shaded chill out area and dining table. The villa itself was open plan with a large living room, bedroom with incredibly comfortable bed and bathroom. This had twin sinks, a massive bath and then both indoor and outdoor showers.
The lounge was equipped with a large TV, DVD player and home cinema system. The kit is a little outdated (including an iPod dock with the 30 pin connector not seen for over 5 years!). However, there were recent release movies available on demand for free (although the setup and interface a little clunky).
There’s also a pretty full on bar, including wine fridge! Plus complimentary tea, coffee and water.
The villa’s pool was the perfect touch: big enough to swim in (just) and completely private.
The hotel has its own private beach and a couple of different areas set up with loungers and a great bar service, including complimentary towels and water. The views at the beach are simply stunning! Do watch out for the local marine life though, plenty of crabs and (small) jellyfish when we were there.
The hotel has many dining options; as well as the main restaurants (Spice Market, Summer House and Zighy Bar) there were special nights such as a beach BBQ plus a number of bespoke options available in the wine tower, in your villa or at Sense on the Edge. The food was really good, the breakfast in particular (served in the Spice Market) had a huge number of buffet choices plus incredible a la carte egg dishes!
Be aware that food and drinks are incredibly expensive at this hotel, wine particularly so. There also doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of logic to the pricing either, but probably driven by availability in this remote location and of course taxes on alcohol. As an example, a burger from room service is c. £35, and the cheapest bottles of wine are £60! Probably the same as you’re used to picking up in a supermarket for £10 at home. A beer or G&T are around £7. They do have a happy ‘hour’ in the Zighy Bar from 9pm until midnight every day.
The best thing about this hotel though has to be the service! Every single member of staff we encountered simply couldn’t do enough for us. We loved every minute and can’t wait to go back!
