Enjoyable zoo, covering a vast amount of land. We arrived early and went on the bus around the zoo. It is large, so the bus is best, at least to get your feel for the scope of the place and where you might want to come back and visit later in the day, especially if you have children. The visitor centre is great, we brought our own food, and there is ample places to sit and relax. The playground was a hit with the kids also.

Not worth the money at all! Tickets cost $100+ for a family with teenagers, and the zoo only has around 10-15 animals, which too are not that exciting to look at from a bus. The only good part is that it's a different kind of experience, but that too not a very exciting one. Definitely not worth the time and money!

When was the last time you visited a zoo? School days? Friends’ last visit? When the kids were young? Ok. Don’t feel bad. Go do something about it. Go visit a zoo.

On that I can highly recommend Monarto Zoo just out of Adelaide. For $35 an adult you can spend a full day here being fascinated, challenged, educated and entertained by the small, the tall, the cheeky and the heavy in a wonderful open-plan arrangement that is fabulously run, beautifully maintained and lovingly developed.

The animals are the stars as they must be in any zoo and here they clearly flourish a fact proven by the number of young they all seem to have. The Guides and the seemingly vast army of volunteers are everywhere to advise, assist and ensure that your visit is what you want it to be with the deep knowledge and catchy enthusiasm.

There are food outlets on site but I recommend taking a picnic so you can relax and find your own little corner of safari-land away from everyone else. And go early. On the public holiday we went it got very crowded from around lunch time on.

Full marks to this wonderful place and the people running it. But bouquets (or extra treats) to the animals. Thanks for sharing the planet with us.

My family and I travelled more than an hour from Adelaide center to reach the 1500 hectare open range Monarto zoo in South Australia. It was big and large by all standards. The Cheetahs, the Tigers and Lions and all the exotic animals to include the Giraffe, the Rhinos and the Tasmanian devils roam freely around their respective inclosures. It is home to over 500 animals and birds according to zoo authorities.

Because of the vast area of the zoo, visitor rode the busses to tour the area while the animals roam the land as far as the eye can see. It was exciting and educational. It was a whole day worth spending.

Spent the day & loved it as did the grandkids. Bit of a line up getting in but well worth it. Buses run thru the park every 15 minutes & you can get off in several places. The volunteers are knowledgeable & do a great job. A credit to all is the professional way it is run.
