Owner description: An ancient Greek theater built in the third century.
Reviewed May 20, 2018

Epidaurus started as a location for cures of medical problems. Here medical doctors would treat conditions with the help of the God of medicine, Asklepios. Later additions of temples, buildings, statues and mineral bathes and the site grew. The theater was added at some time and is considered the best preserved in Greece.

This site is worth a a short visit. The remains of the theater are well preserved. In addition, the acoustics are outstanding. The Greeks were masters at building theaters, and this is a very good example

We prepared a song to try accoustics, but lady/guard prevented us to sing or try to play music in the central spot of the theather. She said only claping with hands is alowed for other we need special permision of ministry. We were very dissapointed and could not convince here to try just one song. So for all of you coming here to try accoustics you will be very dissapointed, but you can sit, be quiet, listen to horde of tourists and watch old stone on a burning sun. Very dissapointed.

What an amazing place! The fact that your friends can speak to you from a spot far away and you can hear them (even when they're deliberately speaking low) speaks to the knowledge held by ancient Greeks. The theater which was designed by Polykleitos the Younger in the 4th century BC, and still allows you to hear the speaker unamplified, is a wonder. Go.
