Our group was fortunate to have an outstanding lunch and wine tasting here at the Domaine Skouras Winery.

We spent the early afternoon exploring Ancient Mycenae with the kids, and were up for a little more fun. My husband found this winery not too far away so we popped in (no reservation). I asked if it was possible to do a tasting, and was told it is absolutely possible, although there were several other reservations soon. We were nicely accommodated and felt warmly welcomed.
The wines were all interesting. We enjoyed learning about the effect of the nearby mountains' cool winds on the lower valley vines (we had been wondering how vines survive the 100+ temperatures in the summer) as well as how the local varietals are best suited for the weather here. We enjoyed tasting the different wines and learning about them. The facility was lovely and very clean with a dramatic entrance.

Our group had a wonderful visit here tasting some locally made Peloponnese wines. The winery has won many awards, it's very glamorous. The manager took us on a tour first then we sat at long tables to taste four of the wines; two white and two reds. We had feta cheese and snacks while trying the wine. I liked the Moscofilero , a white, the best. I bought a bottle to bring home. They wrapped it so well it made it safely.

One reason we visited the Peloponnese region was to discover Greek wines. Dimitris enthusiastically provided us with an excellent and thorough tour of this modern, state-of-the art facility, and introduced us to their many exceptional wines afterwords. At most wineries, there are a few stars, and the rest are forgettable. But not here. Honestly, it was hard not to love them all--rich fruity reds and the crisp, dry whites. World class wine.

Being wine enthusiasts and living near the Napa Valley/Sonoma wine region, we have toured many wineries, but this one was special. We learned so much about the history of wine in Greece, the Nemea region, the local grape varietals, and Domaine Skouras' philosophy of excellence. We are now Greek wine lovers, and will be looking for Skouras wines in California to spread the word, and share with our friends and colleagues. These wines deserve more recognition to become better well-known world-wide!
