My girlfriend and I recently returned from our second trip to St. Lucia, and were very happy with our experience at the Bay Gardens Hotel! Even though it's not ON Reduit Beach, it's only a 10 minute stroll through the Rodney Bay village to it. Plus you'll save a bundle not paying for "beachfront". The shuttle to the Bay Gardens Beach Resort (BGBR) is also quite reliable (even on "Caribbean Time").

The hotel is a very nice Caribbean property. The open-air lobby was very welcoming, and all staff members couldn't have been more helpful. We had stayed at the REX St,.Lucian on our first visit, and even though you're not staying ON Reduit Beach, the Bay Gardens Hotel blew the REX away on every level. They act like they actually WANT to run a great business.

We hit up the poolside bar a few nights for their Happy Hour 2-for-1's and had a great time talking with Eric the bartender. Great kid. Drink prices were very reasonable, and the free overproof welcome rum punches were delicious!

Pools are quite small and shallow, but we didnt use them anyway. Why would you? Reduit Beach is one of the best stretches in the Caribbean! Two tips on the beach...the entire beach is public. You can park your butt anywhere you want, and the stretch of beach in front of the REX resorts is FAR better than the BGBR segment. You can only get beach loungers in the BGBR, however. We had no problem staking out a prime spot in front of the REX and putting our towels on the sand. One other beach tip - you don't have to walk allllll the way down to the BGBR. You can also enter the beach through the REX. The shortest way however, is to hang a left just after the parking lot after the Mandarin Chinese Restaurant and follow the concrete wall to the beach. It's a little off the beaten path, but gets you to the best part of the beach faster. Also, hit up Aunt Marie's Fish Shack at the very southern part of Reduit Beach. Super-friendly authentic beach bar, with a freshly-caught fish special daily...and great drinks! We loved this place! You'll see the shack with all the international flags around it. Do not miss!

Back to the hotel - we stayed in a 1-bedroom Croton Suite and loved it! We weren't staying all-inclusive, and we're not rich people by any means. So to save a few bucks (dining in Rodney Bay is NOT cheap) we wanted to have a fridge and a kitchen to prepare our breakfast, lunch and a few dinners. Bring a packable cooler bag from home to bring lunch sandwiches, water, Piton beers to the beach every day. The Croton Suites provide a full-sized refrigerator/freezer and a 4-burner gas range for cooking. They do not have ovens however, so frozen pizzas are out :) They provide a few pots and pans, silverware, plates , glassware and kitchen utinsils (including a wine/bottle opener) for cooking. We had to ask them for a frying pan, and a non-stick saucepan was the best they could get. We made do with it...no biggie. A cofee maker with provided coffee packet filters was great. Toaster worked fine. If you plan on doing your own cooking, you may want to bring salt and pepper/other spices from home. We had to buy some. The seperate bedroom and bathroom were great. Living room had pretty great selection of channels (including ESPN, CNN and BBC programming). Obviously you don't go to the Caribbean to watch TV, but being able to have some comforts of home before bedtime was wonderful.

The Croton Suites are a bit of a hike from the main hotel lobby area, so be prepared for that. The Suites area is much quieter, which was nice. However, there is an abandoned construction project with very nice vines crawling up it. This is your view from your balcony or terrace. Not a huge deal, but something to be aware of going in.

The hotel has THREE nearby supermarkets to choose from. The best ones are the closest. The Super J IGA in the Rodney Bay Mall is the best of the bunch. Super convenient, as you'[ll pass it's entrance twice daily walking to and from the beach.

As noted in many other reviews, the Rodney Bay Village area has everything you'll need as far as both affordable (Jerk chicken food truck, Rituals Diner, 2 chinese take-out resturants, The Lime, Whiskey In The Jar, Domino's, KFC and Burger King) and upscale (Big Chef, Spices of India, The Edge, Buzz) dining options. Shopping galore. It's really a neat place. Take the short taxi ride into Gros Islet for the Friday night "Jump Up" - a truly authentic Caribbean experience. Your taxi driver will make arrangements with you to pick you up when you're done dancing, drinking and eating.

As this was our second trip to St. Lucia, we kind of know the ropes a bit more. We summited Gros Piton with Francis Alexander on our prior visit. Francis a genuinely wonderful human being who works with the Gros Piton Management Area and lives in Fond Gens Libre, the village at the base of Gros Piton. If you have any interest in doing the Gros Piton hike or doing a tour of the island (seeing the Pitons, etc), contact him directly in St. Lucia at (758) 287-4848. He will make all arrangements for you, and if you're lucky he may even lead you to the top, as he did for us. Francis's knowledge of St. Lucia is unmatched and he will show you a truly authentic, affordably amazing experience. Even if you don't want to do the full Gros Piton hike, he'll take you to the Tet Paul Nature Trail for a very easy, informative and INTIMATE visit with both Pitons. Such a spectacular experience.

We've kept in touch monthly with him for over 3 years...getting to spend the day with him was a highlight of our trip.

All in all, we loved St. Lucia all over again. It's truly a gem in the Caribbean.

Room Tip: The Croton Suites are a great, affordable way to get more space. We would have hated to just have a...

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us in Croton Suites! Your kind words will definitely be shared with the staff as an example of a 'job well done'.

Your review was quite comprehensive and gave a great overview of the Rodney Bay area, as well as some good tips for navigating the beach :)

It is obvious that you have fallen in love with our island, the "Helen of the West", and so we are hoping that you will choose the Bay Gardens Hotel as your home away from home. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon!

Great price, good location within walking distance of beach resort , about 20 min , there is also a shuttle that runs between the 2 facilities from morning till night. When you stay at the hotel you have access to all of the Bay Gardens Beach Resort facilities. The beach , beach chairs etc... Staff at both locations were very friendly and willing to help out with all needs.

The hotel is smaller of course, and older, but very well kept , and clean , nothing lacking. The location was within walking distance of two shopping centres, one duty free shopping. There was also a grocery store nearby , which we found handy for light lunches or some breakfasts.

Would stay here again.

Stayed for 5 nights at the Bay Gardens Hotel. Staff at the hotel were lovely and very helpful especially as we arrived very early for check-in (due to flight) they tried to get the room ready for us as soon as they could and stored our luggage in the meantime. The hotel is situation very close, within walking distance, to the local duty free shopping malls and lots of bars and fairly expensive but good restaurants. There are also two large supermarkets here also. The hotel room we found to be very clean and comfortable and overlook the swimming pool area. The swimming pool is very small but you are able to use the facilities at the sister hotel the Bay Gardens Resort, they do run a shuttle to the resort but you can also take a 15 minute walk there along the main street. The staff here do put on some entertainment a few nights of the week around happy hour which was fun, especially the night when they have the steel drums band and rum punch cocktails. Would recommend this friendly hotel which seems great value in a great location.

We stayed here for 5 days, before traveling around the rest of the island. Rodney Bay is very touristy with a decent beach and tons of expensive restaurants. My advice is to stay at this hotel, if you're like us and just want to experience this end of the island for a short stay, it's a fair price for what you get. It is convenient for shopping, the grocery store, liquor store, and the long strip of restaurants, with the 10min walk to the beach. We had a junior suite, which was quite spacious, with a counter, fridge, coffeemaker, and sink. As well as, a deck over looking the back pool. Not the most comfortable bed in our room unfortunately. However, the rooms are VERY clean. The hotel restaurant had decent food and drinks. The service is what you will experience all over the island, very relaxed and laid back....nobody is in a rush, neither should you you're on vacation. Would I stay here again? After visiting Rodney Bay, there are some other really comfy looking non-all-inclusive hotels, I think I would like to try first before I returned here. There happens to be a taxi hut directly outside the hotel, easy to arrange taxis for seeing the rest of the island. TIP: When you bring your blue beach towel from the room to the sister Bay Gardens Beach Resort, the beach staff will help you with beach chairs and the beach bar is great for all kinds of drinks. The restaurant there is great for a filling/affordable lunch.

We stayed at Bay Gardens Hotel for 8 days and had a nice vacation. It is situated in a great location for wonderful restaurants and shopping. Our room was large and clean, we did have an ant issue, but nothing bad and was taken care of right away. It was nice to be able to walk to restaurants and shopping and feel safe. We did eat at hotel and thought the food was good. We enjoyed the area - and the use of the BGBR pool and beach. Try the fruit at the local vendors - it is such a treat!!

Thank you for your kind comments about Bay Gardens Hotel. In the tropics, it can be quite difficult to keep all the critters out but our staff I am sure handled everything with their usual aplomb. We hope to be able to welcome you back to the Bay Gardens Hotel in the very near future!

We stayed at the Bay Gardens Inn close by but had to eat all meals in this hotel. We used the bar, often, and we always found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. We also used the internet. The hotel is situated in Gros Islet close to the Marina and shops. There are two large supermarkets close by and gusts of both the Inn and the hotel have full use of the Resort, which is 10 minutes walk away or use the shuttle bus which runs every hour. Great hotel great people and great location!

Room Tip: Stay here if you want to be near the shops, restaurants and the beach

I have been staying at Bay Gardens Hotel and Bay Gardens Inn for years, when I travel to St. Lucia on business. Service is always first class and the personnel can't do enough to help. The rooms are comfortable and breakfast is first class. The rates are also kind on pocket. Great value for money.
