On the drive out of Raglan, on the way to Whale Beach, we discovered this gem of a boutique retreat property high on the hillside overlooking the dramatically beautiful West Coast.

This is one alternative place reminiscent of Northern California retreats. There's a surf school, yoga center and you can get holistic bodywork. Places to stay/sleep include a bach, studio, domes, cabooses, tipis and campsites -- all really economically priced. This is likely one of the best places for a "getaway" on the Peninsula. See their web site for more detail.

We enjoyed a couple of smoothies at their on-site Conscious Kitchen. The garden sit-out area has expansive views and a lovely garden. Solscape's tagline - eco, stay, eat, play & grow duly applies.

Room tip: Check out their web site.

Had the best 3 days staying at Solscape after hearing about the surf at ngarunui beach and manu bay. Amazing position up on the hill with cafe and decking overlooking the bay. I sat there for hours entertained by the waves in the sun and during a storm. Food and drink served is something special with some produce grown on site, i also recommend bringing supplies to use communal kitchen as the nearest shop is in raglan town. Slept in the dorm which is a train carriage, small but cosy and stayed with some great people. Staff are very chill, helpful and friendly. They were happy to give me a ride down to the bus in town upon departure. Was sad to leave.

We loved our stay in the Tipi forest it was only for one night but was a cool experience! The Tipi was nice and clean and the beds were surprisingly comfortable! We went prepared with bug repellent but didn't have any problems with bugs and no mosquitos not even one! It was a peaceful area nestled in the bush and it was really good how people were considerate and quite later at night. We even spotted some glow worms on the track to the tipi forest walking back at night which was a nice surprise. The only thing I struggled with was the smell of the compost toilets but overall a great place with an amazing view!

We stayed at Solscape over the long weekend. Its name truely speaks for itself, such a grounding, incredible place, situated right at the edge of Karioi's lovely bush. A place to come home to yourself. Solscape has no certain 'type' of people, but if your a square and can't see past the city lights and its white collar ways, perhaps stay away, or maybe just open your heart and enjoy what Solscape can offer (if you can handle all the good vibes!) The food is also wonderful. Peace and love Solscape!

The solscape offers a huge variety of accomodation. We spend a night on the tent side which got a very nice open kitchen. The cool ways of sleeping AT solscape and the very ecological mindset isn't the best part. The view from the frontside to the ocean can not be beaten by anything i experienced in a hostel before.
