“Best accomodations yet in the last 4 times to Cuba”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

I would highly recomend this Hotel as it has been far the best one yet in the last 4 trips to Cuba. We have stayed in Varadero 3 times but as this was our first in Holquin we weren`t sure what to expect. The food was great, many bars and resturants on premises and beach was fantastic.Friendly staff and all spoke good English. Definately would return to The Brisas.

The Brisas Guardalavaca is a great place to go for fun in the sun. The Hotel is on a great beach. The resort is laid out great with not alot of walking. The Hotel is getting old but is still nice and always clean. The bunglows are alittle nicer. Great livily Disco and food is good for Cuba. A great market you can walk to 15 mins away. The staff is great and still greatfull if they get tips or presents

Room Tip: take the horse and buggy to the market and step back in time.Rooms on 3 and 4 floor oceanside get gr...

We had heard that Cuba was a good bargain, but not to expect too much from the hotels and restaurant. Brisas Guardalavaca was a very pleasant surprise! An efficient check-in, a very spacious and comfortable room (albeit with firm pillows, but I got over myself...) and a great choice of restaurants and bars. Beside the standard buffet restaurant, there were six or seven specialty "by reservation only" restaurants, and we had no problem getting reservations for all of our dinners. Staff were exceptionally charming and friendly - both the wait staff and bartenders - but watch the bartenders' tendency to pour generous drinks - we didn't notice the first day, and ended up a little tipsy! The maid service was efficient - our room was always cleaned and restocked. Despite a 98% occupancy rate, we found that there were always lots of empty chairs by the pool and on the beach - no problem with guests hogging chairs. In late February, the weather was perfect - 34 Celsius, beautiful sunny skies with light breezes. The beach was wonderful - if you snorkel straight out for about half a kilometre, you'll find a coral reef complete with sea urchins and loads of colourful fish. We booked through selloffvacations.com and the price was extremely attractive. We'll be back next year for sure.

Room Tip: the "villa" section has bigger rooms, and is much quieter than the main hotel. Worth spen...

If we were in the habit of going back to a hotel more than once, would probably
come back here.
That's our personal choice- we like to see as many parts of the world as
possible.

Rooms-
Cleaned every day to a good standard. Towel art left every day.
Towels and Bedding changed at the guests request ( good idea I thought- you just
put a little card on the pillow when needed- saving the planets water and all
that)
We did tip the maid at the beginning of the holiday, but didn't
really receive any special treatment. so didn't tip at the end
Stayed in the main hotel. The rooms aren't as modern, or as big as
the villa rooms. But are about £50 a week cheaper.

Food
Both buffet restaurants did a huge variety of breakfast. Bacon and black
pudding- which is unheard of in all inclusive hotels.
We ate in all the a la carte restaurants. Good fare all round. Our
favourite was the Buccaneer 'Beer' Restaurant. Least favourite - the Cuban one
Dress code in the restaurants- don't forget your trousers.

Bars
Flippin eck- there's hundreds of them!!!
We generally used the pool bar at the main pool during the day (Special
mention to Oscar- Top bar man!!!!!)
Occasional visits to the buccaneer- bottled heiniken and becks- happy
days
Evenings were spent up in the Havana Bar. This Hidden little gem does
the best Mohitos ive ever had ( ask for the 3 year old rum.)

Trips
Must admit we didn't bother
Most either visited churches and cemeteries, or were boat trips
We did however jump on the open top bus for a trip up to the Indian
village- Cheap and a couple of hours killed.
Also had a nice horse ad cart tour. About an hour for 2o peso ( for up to
to four people, so thta about £3 each) Pinch a banana or two from breaky for
the horse!!!

Shopping
Some traders in the hotel every day, or just a 10min walk up the
beach front you will find the daily market. All selling all to usual leather
wood and horn carving. Very reasonable prices compared to other parts of the
world
We usually jumped on a horse and cart for the ride back -£2
Money
Exchange in the hotel reception. Rates are set by the government so
no need to shop around.

Staff
ALL pleasant and seemed to enjoy working there. Apart from the reception
( miserable- to say the least!)
Gardeners were especially pleasant. My wife and friends received several
coconuts from the trees and little sculptures made from leaves.

Overall a good hotel for the price. Don't go expecting 5 star luxury and you
wont be disappointed

My boyfriend and I took a week all inclusive vacation to Brisas at the end of March. We had perfect weather, it rained twice but once it was so early in the morning by the time we got out of bed everything was dry and the second rain was quick and then it cleared off. The locals say march is the cloudiest month, but like I said the weather was hot and phenomenal. It cooled down a lot at night and you definitely need to bring long sleeve shirts to stay warm enough to watch the nightly entertainment.

We stayed in the hotel room 312 with an ocean view. It was beautiful. The room stayed nice and cool. At night the shows went on until about 11pm and it was noisy if you were trying to sleep. We loved the towel art and flowers the cleaning lady left us. She even stopped us in the hallway to say she had the privilege of cleaning our room. She was lovely.

The buffet was average, lots to choose from and not too hard on the stomach. Make reservations early for the dinners, there are 6 restaurants and the quality is much better than the buffet. The restaurants provide entertainment, whether it is a singer, a band, a magician, or a show of fire. The servers at these restaurants are very friendly and seem to remember your face.
The beach was the best part of the trip. Beautiful sand. You can walk to the market. You can even snorkel and go on a sailing boat, it's all included.

We did one adventure and that was the catamaran. They give you snacks and drinks. You get a beautiful trip on a big boat. You get to snorkel, a delicious lunch with more drinks, and a chance to swim with the dolphins. The dolphins are wonderful and it seems like you get to spend a lot of time with them. We even saw people training seals.
The gym is limited in weights, but at least there was a gym to use that wasn't too busy.
The whole resort seemed pretty quiet and it was definitely an older crowd, which we loved.
The poolside had lots of fun entertainment; dancing, games, aerobics. The pool was clean and never too busy.
All in all, we would definitely recommend Brisas Guardalavaca.

Room Tip: The Villas are much quieter, if you like to go to bed early.

Negative reviews slightly worried us but staying there last week proved them all wrong, because this is a great destination.

Accomodation: Villas - quiet and large, hotel rooms- smaller but more going on in the vicinity.

Food: Above average, a la carte very good, all six in a week!!

Beach: Fantastic, complete with plenty of chairs, shade, hammocks

Boardwalk: Complete with many beautiful look out points, great for a brisk walk or morning stroll, bringing you straight to the local flea market.

Trips: Many organized trips, but try the local bus/train for something a little different or the glass bottom boat trip 19 CUC (pesos) per person,

Safety: Very safe destination, lovely people, wanting to genuinely give you a wonderful holiday, helpful and informative, from the gardeners, to the maids and people on reception.

Massage: "to die for" on beach or in salon. Excellent "face massage" this canadian reflexologist was impressed, be sure to tell the lovely massage lady I sent you!!

All in all, excellent trip, absolutely want to visit again.

Have a wonderful holiday, you lucky lucky people!!

Room Tip: Villa section all the way (but we like peace and quiet), maybe if you are a party animal you may pr...

We had not been back to Cuba since 2004 and delighted with all the changes for the better.
This place was recommended to us and we got a last minute deal so went from March 17-March 31st. Got a room on 2nd floor (garden view). Quiet at night which we wanted.
We did try all 6 restaurants and the only one we really liked was the Seafood and went back there. Buffet food can get a little monotonous but you don't go to Cuba for the food. We found 99% of the staff to be wonderful and realize why older people have been coming back here for 10+ years. Easy walking to the Flea market and around the local area. The one problem with this resort is they don't hand out information sheets on anything and you have to find info out via word of mouth. Ask for a map of the resort -you get "we ran out and will have some printed off in an hour" or "we don't do that" Reading one of the other reviews regarding men having to wear long pants-that was not enforced when we were there . The beach was lovely when the wind was not blowing but I found the ocean cool. The doughnut lady was wonderful and we were surprised that she rented that area from Brisas and it is not cheap-so if you enjoy her doughnuts-please make sure you tip her well. We probably will go back again.

Room Tip: We prefer hotel to villas just because of walking distance to buffett for breakfast
