Perfect but expensive

Review of Sleep & Fly
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 25, 2018via mobile
A great place to stay if you have an early flight out of Barcelona airport. Comfortable, quiet, friendly receptionist. Free non-alcoholic drinks in the room. Great coffee machine! You pay for the convenience but it’s worth it if you need to get a dawn flight.

If you have a very early flight out of BCN or a lengthy layover, the Air Rooms are a great choice. Clean, spacious enough (in Europe I have definitely paid more to stay in much smaller), well-appointed, comfortable rooms with showers, espresso, free beverages and wifi. The facility, which is located in Terminal 1 (the international terminal) Centro de Negocios, also has a fitness center and other amenities. It's easy to find -- just follow the signs for Air Rooms on the directional signs at the airport. Being able to nap and shower during a long trip, or prepare for an early departure without the stress of getting to the airport, is well worth the price, if it's in your budget.

Room tip: My room (102) had a floor-to-ceiling window facing the terminal and road through it, which was kind of cool.

Really disappointed with this 'hotel' it is really not a hotel at all just a stopover room to sleep & I would not recommend it for lone female travellers as the rooms are on a lonely corridor on ground/1st floor & there is no security in an area of the airport which is deserted at night. I would not recommend for an overnight stay. It is very difficult to find in the airport there is no signage & even the taxis & information desk do not know where it is! Apparently it has been here for 8 years and this has always been a problem but honestly they couldn't care less! I phoned the number on my reservation & just got music on several attempts. It is also expensive for what it is.
Seriously avoid & dong bother having s meeting here as nobody will find it!

First of all, this place isn't a real hotel. Don't book here expecting it to be an airport hotel... because it's not, nor does it claim to be. TripAdvisor lists it as a hotel, but Air Rooms itself markets itself specifically as being great for day use or an overnight stay for an early flight. I find the reviews complaining of missing hotel amenities like breakfast or a wake up call as having misguided expectations.

Based on their marketing as day rooms, I expected something along the lines of the day rooms at Narita airport in Tokyo, or at worst, Minute Suites in the US. I was pleasantly surprised to find a decently sized, very clean room that was even larger than actual hotel rooms I've stayed in Paris, London, or Rome. Complimentary beverages were also a nice unexpected add on.

Overall, I found Air Rooms perfect for what it claims to be, a convenient place at the airport to rest for a few hours between flights or before an early morning flight the next day. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the ridiculous pricing. For me, I was offered 65 EUROS for the minimum of 3 hours, or 85 EUROS for the 5 hours I had requested, which even seems low compared to what others on here have reportedly paid. Yes it's conveniently located, but at the prices they're charging, no wonder people expect a full-service hotel.

To get to the hotel from arrivals at Terminal 1 follow the signs for the Bacelona - Madrid shuttle otherwise the hotel may be difficult to find. It all looks very swish inside but at reception I was asked for a deposit in case I smoked in the room or did something to the room. I've never smoked in my life and everyone knows by now that you can't smoke in public places. For €155 a night I expected a bit more courtesy.

The room was overall fine but the bathroom needed updating. The shower basin was cracked and the cubicle looked a bit shabby. The grouting needed a clean or redoing. On the side of the toilet partition there was a label that said Rentokil last came in May 2017! Fortunately I didn't see an infestation.

It was reasonably quiet during the night and the bed was comfy and clean. There was a coffee machine and complimentary cold drinks. Check out was efficient and friendly. Just about a 4 star as it was slightly better than average.
